Hey all

I am looking to upgrade my pc that has a few years on its back but has served me well.
Being out of touch to the latest parts i'm finding it difficult deciding what parts mainly need upgraded and what parts that could still be kept if possible

I currently have a 1080p 144hz screen so preferably wanting to upgrade to utilize that but I will probably eventually upgrade to a 1440p screen in the near future.

Currently play a variety of games but mainly fps (battlefield) and rpg's

My upgrade budget is preferably as low as possible but max i'm probably wanting to spend at the moment is £800 (i'm in the uk)

my current build is:

Case: Fractal Design Define S
GPU: EVGA Gtx 970 SSC acx 2.0
CPU: intel i7 6700k 4.0GHz
CPU fan: Noctua NH-D15
RAM: corsair vengeance 2x8gb ddr4 2400mhz
PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 750W
Hard drive: samsung SSD 850 EVO 500gb + western digital blue 1TB 7200rpm

Thanks for your help :)

That's still a strong build.  The only thing I would do is upgrade your GPU to something like a RTX 2070 Super.  Maybe upgrade your HDD to a 4 or 6 GB while your at at.  1GB isn't a lot for games.

There's already a 500GB SSD in the system. Mass storage on SSD is still a bit pricey.

Bud from what I can tell with the 1440p parameter you'll need a new CPU, mobo, GPU and RAM. That SATA SSD will load those games just fine.

The R5 3600 is the obvious choice in budget builds as everyone and their cat will have said and I'd pair it with the ASUS TUF X570-Plus as it has a good VRM for overclocking and the thermals are good during it. As for GPU the RX 5700 should do the job for high-class 1080p and some 1440p gaming, so any AIB model from PowerColor and Sapphire are great. As for RAM the 2400MHz is very slow for Ryzen 3000 so upgrade to a decent 3200MHz 2*8GB kit. That'll land you around the 800£ range. So here's my two cents on this! ;)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X | Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula | GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900XT | RAM: 2*16GB 3200MHz 14-14-14-34 G.Skill Trident Z Royal Silver | SSD: 2TB Gigabyte Aorus Gen 4; 500GB Samsung 860 EVO | CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i RGB Platinum | PSU: Corsair AX850 | Case: Corsair Crystal 680X | Monitor: Eve Spectrum 4K | Keyboard: Logitech G513 Romer-G Tactile | Mouse: Logitech G502 Lightspeed
