Hi  everyone, i'll get straight to the point here

when it comes to pc components my knowledge basically extends to: the bigger the number the faster it goes, im really quite a noob when it comes to pc building.

That being said, i'm tired of barely hitting 60fps on new releases with my current setup (Asus laptop with an i7-8750h, 16 gigs of ram and a 1050ti for anyone who cares) and i'd really like to take things up a notch.

My current budget is somewhere between AUD$3000 and AUD$4500 so im looking to build something pretty powerful.

The aim of the system really is just for high end gaming, my laptop is fine for productivity and portability so i'd really just like to be able to put a machine together that will let me enjoy high performance for the next few years.

Components

CPU

I'd like to run either an i7-9700k or an i9-9900k for the CPU, i know the latest top of the range Ryzen outperforms the i9 in some cases but i'm more inclined towards intel.

Motherboard

From what ive heard the Asus ROG Maximus XI motherboards are the leading product when it comes to mobos however out of all PC components motherboards are the ones i know the least about so advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

RAM

As for RAM, 32 gigs of DDR4 is preferable and from what i've read G.skill trident z RAM seems to be pretty popular. my knowledge of ram timings is minimal so if someone can enlighten me on what they mean for performance i would be very appreciative.

GPU

Budget permitting i'd like to get a GTX 2080, however the 2070 is probably more within my price range again, and i know i probably sound like i need my hand held through all of this but opinions on what would be more suitable are appreciated. I'd also like some advice on which manufacturer to go with as there is some pretty significant price variation between MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, etc.

Cooling

Cooling is another area in which i know very little, my assumption is that standard air cooling for the cpu probably wont be enough when dealing with the parts i've mentioned and as such i'd probably have to get an AIO of some kind opinions on this are again very helpful. Case cooling is also something i'd like advice on, do i just want to keep the air flowing from one end of the case to the other with the biggest fans i can fit or is there some sort of magic solution to keeping my components from becoming fancy looking scrap metal.

PSU

As for the PSU i'm fairly sure i'll want something >700 watts to run the parts ive mentioned, Size and brand suggestions would be helpful. noise isnt that big of a deal for me realistically.

Case

The case i pick is something of a non-issue at the moment as i'm much more concerned with nailing down the guts of my build however if you have a case in mind i'd love to hear about it.

Periperals

At the moment i already have a fairly decent 144hz 1440p 27" curved monitor that i'm pretty happy with and i'll probably look into getting a second one in the 4-500 (AUD) range later down the line

I dont currently have a decent keyboard or mouse however i'll probably go for a mouse from the Steelseries Rival series to match my Arctis 5 headset and i'll likely get one of their keyboards as well. If you believe a different brand is superior however please let me know.

Dude for the money you're spending there are tons of options: First of all don't go with any Intel CPU. The gaming performance that they have over AMD is made zero by all the security issues and the mitigations. I also like Intel but their next good CPUs are around two years away (which I am looking forward to!). AMD beats them in all other factors. So depending on budget the Ryzen 3700X or 3900X are the way to go. So with the MOBOs the ROG Strix X570-E gaming is a worthy choice due to it's awesome I/O and VRM. If your budget allows it try to go for the Crosshair VIII Hero Wifi. The 32GB of Trident Z is a really good choice. You should go with the 3600MHz kit as it is the best speed with Ryzen and go for the 16-16-16-36 timing, that's the best timing on any 3600 CL16 kit. So for the GPU if the budget allows it then go with the 2080 Super but if you' inclined towards the 2070 range then either the 2070 Super for the performance or the RX 5700XT for 20% less price of the 2070 Super but with only around a 7% deficit. You see what's best for you! For cooling you should either go with a beefy air cooler or go with a good AIO water cooling system (The Corsair H115i Platinum). In terms of the case fans you can populate the front with the AIO rad if you going with that or around two to three and at least one exhaust fan. Ideally if three intake then around two to three exhaust (Keep it even). So with PSUs you should go with minimum 80+ Gold (ideally Platinum). The good ones are the be quiet! Pure Power Pro 11 750/850W or the Corsair SF750 or HX850. Other good brands are Seasonic and FSP or Thermaltake, just to name a few. As for case one of my personal favourites is the Corsair Crystal 680X or 570X, but that's up to your aesthetics! For keyboards and mice Logitech G is extremely good, some of my favourites are their G502 (also Lightspeed) and their G513 Carbon. They might be on the pricey side but the build quality and RGB look very good!

So there's my take on it.

Cheers man ;)

WOW huge thanks for all the advice you seem to really know your stuff advice on cooling and the mobo was especially helpful and i really like the idea of using the aio rad for the front fans and i/o was something i thought of after making the post. as for the cpu, ive gone and done some reading and you're totally right.

Thanks a bunch

EDIT: just fixed some spelling

You've mentioned using the rad as the front fans, I hope we're just on the same page here so no misunderstanding happens you of course use the fans attached to  the rad to generate intake and cool the CPU at the same time, not just the rad without the fans. Just to clear the mist if there was any :)

Thanks alot, i might change the case to something with a bit simpler aesthetic and the CPU cooler to an aio, although i know noctua makes very good coolers anyway so i'll have to do some more research.
