Stress testing the i9-9900KS

Hi guys. So I've got a bit of a problem. I attempted running a stress test (prime95) on my i9-9900KS (running at stock speeds) and it immediately hit 100 C and shut my computer down. I'm using a Corsair h100i pro rgb to cool it. Is it not enough? What am I doing wrong? I know the 9900k(s) is known for running hot. Also using Arctic MX-4 thermal paste.

pump and fan speed control having problems?

Hmmmm BitWit wasn't stable during his Prime95 runs, but he didn't make mention of high temps.  

 

Did you re-mount the cooler?

Obviously this is not expected behavior, you may have a bad mount or the pump's dead and alike... and obviously the pump effects temps as it's what makes the water pass through the radiator in order for the air from the AiO fans to cool it down.

I had to remount it after replacing the CPU, if that's what you're getting at

That sounds a bit too extreme, considering the fact that the 9900K is soldered and you tested it at stock clocks. 

 

Probably something wrong with your pump or maybe the block isn't seated correctly, which probably isn't too helpful but... What else could I say?!

 

There's a reason I like everything air-cooled, let it be a CPU or a motorcycle engine!

Run pump at max speed, its rated for max duty cycle for its lifetime so not running it on less than max wont "make it last longer"  Then set up your fans to increase speed as temps increase.

You may have a bad mount or air bubble, or in fact an air bubble trapped in the block/pump - can also maneuver the case around while its running (at max speed) and ensure no bubbles in the pump/block.  If your pump/block is the highest point of the loop its also likely air will trap there.

No, I'm not.  I'm asking if you've done it again to see if perhaps the current mount is bad.
