Display port cable 1.4 or 1.2?

I just got my aw3420dw alienware monitor 3440x1440 120hz native and g sync. The display port that comes with it is 1.2 my graphic card is the evga rtx 2080 ti. It says dp 1.4 should i get a 1.4 cable? I dont wanna run into complatibility issues.

DisplayPort doesn't have different cables like HDMI... They're all the same cable.

But i heard 1.4 has more badnwidth if you're running some rediculously high resolution like 8K

the cables are mostly the same, with very few exceptions. It's the port that's the difference, on a quick search a dp1.2 port should be able to accept a 3440x1440 100hz signal.

I have 120hz at 3440x1440
