Need to connect instrument (WAN i.e. 10.0.9.---) to PC(LAN 192.21.----) using a ethernet switch

Go to solution Solved by mynameisjuan,

If you want to connect to it just for updates you dont need to setup routing, just connect to it directly. Thats unnecessary

Windows -

1. Network and sharing center

2. Adapter properties

3. Change IP address to say

IP - 10.0.9.10 (just not its specified address)

Mask - 255.0.0.0

GW - 10.0.9.1

I can directly connect to the instrument using Ethernet cable but cannot do anything on it i.e. firmwareupdate or communicate for data. I want to know what is the optimal solution for this. The manual says it can patch cable crossed or it being connected to network switch & switch being connected to PC. I tried the last one but I'm getting IP address not valid, which is similar to what I got by connecting directly.

A switch cannot transfer traffic between different subnets.

You need a router for that.

I am a bit confused what you want to do tho. Do you want to connect a device straight to a pc with an ethernet cable? Or what exactly is the goal here?

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

Use a router here? Why won't that work?

What switch? You can't do that with a switch normally, unless its a l3 switch, of which then you have a router.

Whats the network layout?

The devices must be on the same subnet if you don't have a router.
