Not using your laptop on your bed

Heard it's bad cause it fucks with ventilation and cooling. But if I have a modern laptop whose fans are only spinning under heavy workloads, it should be fine to use it in bed for web browsing, no? Since it's completely quiet and cools passively.

Yes but I thought: "maybe part of the lint can detach, go inside the laptop and prevent the fans from running properly" or something, even though the laptop is quiet and all.

If your laptop had that strong of an suction, it would have been a health hazard and would come with metal fan shrouds. I have seen fans literally caked with dust and they still worked so I don't think tiny piece of a fiber would cause that much of an damage.

That's exactly why. 

 

When the fans spin down, they are not OFF. If you block the vents by having the laptop on padding, or your legs, it will heat up faster.

 

You can't clean the fans properly on most laptops, and those are the second most replaced part. But if you cause it to overheat, you risk destroying the CPU. Fortunately most laptops will shut down immediately if it's at risk of overheating, but that doesn't mean it's undamaged.

Bro.. I’ve been using laptops in bed for the last 10+ years.. it’s fine. Doing light workloads like browsing, Netflix, YouTube etc it’s totally fine. 

 

like @yaboistar mentioned, If you are doing heavy workloads like gaming, video/photo editing or whatever, I’d make sure it’s on a flat surface where it can suck in plenty fresh air to cool down.

Either way the Laptop will be hot just depends on how hot you would like it/how much you are will to let it thermal throttle if you play games or use it for a long time.

For games I do use it on a desk. I'm merely wondering about whether there's any danger of using it in bed for pure web browsing and anything that won't trigger the fans.
