m.2 Question about m.2 in laptops

Hi all,

 

So recently I bought a pre-owned HP omen 15:

i7 7700hq

8gb ram

GTX 1060 max

1TB HDD n 128gb SSD

 

The SSD died with in a week.

 

I went to a repair shop they said it will cost me £120 to replace the same size SSD.

 

£120 is way to expensive for me as a student.

It's an M.2 ssd.

 

Is there a difference between a desktop m.2 and a laptop one?

If not I'm gonna order one online and install it myself

Nope, none. There is a difference between SATA and NVMe, wanna make sure what can the laptop use first. Also length as M.2 has like 4 length standards, even though M.2-2280 is the most common and used by most laptops anyway

Theres a couple different lengths for both desktop and laptops.

I would buy a 500GB SSD for like £70-90 And install it yourself. Shouldn’t be too difficult I think. Saves you money and you have a larger SSD. If money is tight go for a 250GB model for like £35-50.
