I just noticed that my NVidia control panel is not allowing SLI options. It let's me only allocate PhysX to one of the cards, but nothing else. My bridge lights up at least and seems to be well connected, I've reinstalled the drivers. I tried plugging the monitor to either card. Am I missing something or should I assume something is broken?

The cards are two GTX 970 and it's using an official 4 slot HB bridge.

They need to be compatible 970’s. Have to be on a supporting version of Windows. Board needs to also support that kind of sli.

If they are evga's they can look very similar but have compatibility issues.  May be the same for other brands as well.

They are different vendors, :/ One is Gigabyte, the other one is MSI. It's an old board, much older than HB SLI as well.

Ya can be a risk they dont work together.  I was surprised that even within the same brand, they have 970s that dont necessarily work together in SLI.  I would assume there would potentially be inter-brand compatibility issues.

I would maybe sell them both on ebay and try to upgrade.  I had 970's SLI'd before, and it worked fine for the most part, but the small VRAM (only 3.5) was what caused a problem.  Some games I got actually very good FPS at 1080p, even high in lots of games.  But in games that had big VRAM requirements it didnt matter, would chug and look like garbage.

I need to upgrade the whole system. It's not my main rig and I have back it my parents house but been spending more time there lately. It has an i7 960 OCed to 4GHz and 12GB DDR3. It plays some stuff still and even without SLI - just separating the PhysX already boosted me AC Odyssey for example quite a lot, almost maxing it out a 1080p at steady 40fps. I wanted SLI to take advantage in older games and try to play some stuff at 4k but I feel I shouldn't invest much more in that PC until I build a new rig.

You mean instead of using an HB bridge, it'd work regular like that?

Any bridge would work. A single regular ribbon bridge would work.

Well u don’t need hb bridge

and most likely reason it’s not working for u is because u should be using slots 1 and 2 not 1 and 4

You mean 1 and 3? The graphics cards take 2 slots each. But the mobo only has those two for graphics cards, the #2 and #3 are simple PCI slots.

Which ever slots the mobo says it supposed to be on. Normally 1 and 3. It counts the pcix 16 slots not in total.

Normally you’ll have one space between the cards of it works out.

Has to be on the correct slots as even all the 16 slots don’t run fast enough. The last one normally maxes out at 4x which isn’t enough and run off the chipset.
