Hello, I'm a student of IT systems (management and installation of computer networks). I have a task to configure NAS so it would notify admins pc when other connected devices have low ammount of storage so it would backup some data from those devices to NAS storage and that way clearing some space from those devices.

So my question is where should I start from, what configurations should I do and what programs should I install to this NAS. Because as far as I understand first of all I'll need to do some sort of file filtering, than programing/downloading program that would be capable to let Administrator download those filtered out files from device(-s) to NAS and a way that those backuped files would be reachable only for those devices/accounts that they were backed up from.

Thanks in advance for all your answers!

P.S. I will use Fujitsu CELVIN NAS QR806

Well, I'd say you could use TeamViewer for this, but it's rather limited for your needs thus making it useless...

Got interested in same thing, so gonna follow this thread.

Does it support email allerts?

SNMP?

How do you do notifactions of other devices? Where do you want this notifaction to go?

Why are you using that model of nas?

1) It supports E-mail alert (SMTP authentication).

2) Yes, it supports SNMP.

3) I need to program or maybe there already is a program that sends notifications about low amount of space in a PC from college LAN, this notification needs to go to college admins PC and admin should be able to transfer those files to NAS from his PC. And as far as I understood, files from those PCs should go through some sort of filtering, so it would transfer files randomly.

4)I'm using this NAS model, because it's already bought by college to my diploma thesis supervisor, so it ended up as my device to work with for my diploma thesis.

Not yet, but I'll try, what about data filtering and sending it to NAS through Admins PC, any ideas?

I would ask him, but college sent him to teach something in university abroad, so for now I need to try figure some things by my self and start working.
