Hello people of LTT forums,

I am about to build a new Desktop and my budget for just the Tower is 3000$
Here are the specs so far:
Intel i9-9900k

ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero

(Graphics Card)

64GB of 3200mHz RAM

2TB M.2 SSD Storage

Noctua Cooler

Fractal R6

850W Gold Corsair Power Supply

My problem is I need help finding a suitable graphics card for 1440p 144hz gaming.

Obviously, i'm not going to get 144hz on Triple A games.

Just trying to get 144hz on Rainbow Six.

I was gonna get the RTX 2080Ti, until I heard the next gen Nvidia Graphics Cards were coming out soon. Should I cop the 2080ti right now or wait till the 3080ti comes out.

I really want to play Doom Eternal and CyberPunk. Will the 3080ti come out before they do? or at least around that time?

Doom Eternal = March 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 = April 2020

3080Ti = when Nvidia says it's ready

Just get a 2080ti. It's more than enough to play any AAA titles coming out as well as any existing games you have. A 2070 Super will cut it, but if you have money to burn, by all means get the 2080ti.

The predicted launch is Mid next year and with shortages overpricing due to low stock it could be hard to pick one up until 8 months... Although if its 7nm it will be a big performance leap. Best bet is to buy like a used 1080ti and sell it when it launches.

If you want a strictly New GPU now well the choice is kinda obvious for your build.

Good idea man. I just hope I don't have the ultimate regret when, by some miracle it comes out early.

Nothing is really certain with Nvidia releases. They're pretty secretive about it unless someone leaks legit info.

I mean, I do have a 1060 in my basement. Could pull that out and play on 1080p until next year

The only issue is that you will be "wasting" the core i9s potential until then due to the bottleneck (not so much with a 1080ti), essentially wasting money and it become a bigger issue if the launch takes too long and then the next CPUs are around the corner which is why I recommend going all out on parts in one setting instead of playing hot potato with hardware launches.
