My buddy just gave me his old iPhone 6s to use as a music player, since android ones kind of suck. The default music player isn't terrible, but it isn't my ideal. I just went through my music to make sure everything is properly tagged with 1000x1000 album art. The default music player even on a 6s+ shows the album art smaller than on my significantly smaller Galaxy S4. I know, I keep up with the new hot smartphone trends.

Anyways, I've tried VOX, and the now playing tab is pretty good, except it does a sort of waveform bar instead of a simple progress bar. I also don't like that the artist view doesn't group albums, and shows everything in a list.

My ideal player would have:

  1. A large album cover view (Like VOX is actually full screen)
  2. Multi-tag support, this is useful for sorting through music with guest artists or looking for everything with Don Henley etc.
  3. Group albums in artist view as tiles (Like default music player, VOX shows a list and makes it very inconvenient when you have more than 1 album by an artist.)
  4. Quicker access to different sorting (Like default music player, with Artist, Album, Genre, etc. VOX only shows Artist, Album, Track in a dropdown menu)
  5. Simple controls on now playing tab (VOX and default music player are fine, Onkyo HF Player is pretty busy
  6. I do not need nor want streaming of random things. I have a library local music.
  7. Any amount of further customization is always good.

If it's any reference, I'm using MusicBee on PC and Blackplayer on Android.
