Posted something similar before but was incomplete and out of order/missing stuff, this is the full list

Hey guys, so i'm currently planning this build and have some questions for switching out/changing some parts

The thing i use my pc for is gaming, and basically looking to "future proof" my CPU and RAM about the next 5/6 years so i will only have to upgrade my GPU once or twice in the same period

My display is 1440p 144hz with g-sync, so that's what i'll have to power.

GIGABYTE Z390 GAMING X (rev. 1.0), socket 1151 motherboard

Intel Core i9-9900K or Intel core i7-9700k

Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 (i still have this one in my current pc and feel like an upgrade to rtx would not be worth it yet for 700 euro's +)

be quiet! Dark Rock Slim BK024 as CPU cooler

G.Skill 16 GB DDR4-3200 Kit

Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 500 GB SSD

Seagate BarraCuda, 4 TB

NZXT NZXT H510i wh/bk ATX tower

Corsair RM850X, 850 Watt

Windows 10 Home

So here's the questions i have

  1. What cpu that i listed would serve me best?

  2. on both the cpu's it says they'll only support up to DDR4-2666 how does that work? do i have to xmp or Overclock for it to go up to 3200?

  3. Is the power supply overkill? and if so what would be a better option?

  4. Will i need to buy "drive bays" for my HDD and SSD i'm totally unfamiliar with the concept

  5. I currently have a 7200 RPM HDD of 3 TB, and i only see 5400 RMP drives at a reasonable price currently (7200 ones are almost twice as expansive) i coudn't really find much info if this actually makes much a difference, i use the drive to store everything from movies/games/music etc have drives improved that much that i won't matter anymore?

  6. The i9 has 8 cores and hyperthreading, the i7 only has 8 cores and no hyperthreading, does this matter much?

1. neither of them. I would recommend a Ryzen 3600 or 3700x instead. much cheaper and perform almost the same as the 9700k and 9900k respectively. If you really want to "Futureproof" get a 3900x or 3950x which cost about the same as a 9900k and will perform much better.

2. works with 3200 out of the box.

3. Not really overkill, but you could probably just get an RM650x and it'll probably be just fine.

4. nope there are built in drive bays in cases.

5. honestly just get a 7200rpm drive, im not sure how u got the prices of 7200 be twice as much, what drives are you looking at?

6. matters alot but again go ryzen. the 3900x for the same price has 12 cores 24 threads and the cheaper 3700x matches the 9900k with 8 core 16 threads

Isn't there some weird stuff happening with AMD cpu's and nvidia gpu's? thats kinda why i was looking at intel, and since i've never bought anything from AMD

Some drive examples are : Seagate Exos, 4 TB(7200) would be 148 euro's  and the Seagate BarraCuda(5400), 4 TB is only 93 euro's?

I dont recall anything weird with amd cpus and nvidia gpus. I'm using a 1700x with a gtx 960 as my render machine with no problem, i have 3 friends with a Ryzen 3600 + GTX 1070 (2 of which i built) with no problem in gaming and basically any tasks. I also know one guy with a Ryzen 3900x + GTX 1080 Ti which also works no problem.

The only 4tb 7200 rpm HDD from the store i'm buying from at a reasonable price would be this one: Toshiba N300 for 112 euro's, but it's full of bad reviews.

everything else bumps up with 40 euro's or more, what discs are you looking at?

Damn, those prices are way better than here, only 1 shop sells it lol at 99 euro's

I'll do some further digging, would 5400 and 7200 make that much of a difference when it's just storing and loading games/movies etc?

And would i need a different motherboard with AMD and if so what kind?

It is not a big difference, it is more noticeable when you need to do "seeking" tasks but not when you store data.

Yes, if in fact you can find them at the same price I would go with the one with the highest RPM.

Except the BarraCuda Pro, it supports workloads of 24/7, the normal for cosnumers is more for machines that work 5 days a week only during a regular 8 hours schedule.
