I watched the LTT video and saw them build the server for it. When I saw what parts were in it I thought I could build my own for me and my mates. I have been tr6for the last 3 days to get it to work but I'm failing, hard. I'm using the jar file from here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server/

But I cant seem to get it to work by following their instructions. Here is a list of some problems I have encountered.

cmd not letting me input commands despite being on the administrative level.

The jar file crash to the point I have to re download it.

If I dont follow the MC wikis instructions and use this video

I can get the server to work but only on my wifi. I can connect any computer in my house to it but its useless as all of my mates are spread across the continent (I'm an Aussie). If someone could help show me the way to do it properly then can you please help.

You will need to setup a port forward on your router to point the minecraft port at your LAN IP of the server, IE 192.168.1.100:53325 or whatever it is. You would need to tell the router to forward all traffic for port 53325 to 192.168.1.100 on your network. Then you will need to tell your friends your public IP address, so like 1.2.3.4 and add the port on the end for them to connect, so it would be like 1.2.3.4:53325

@WoodyWoo As @Skiiwee29 said above, you need to setup port forwarding on your router for minecraft.

This is a general wikihow tutorial, but port forwarding will change for whatever router you do have, essentially you just need to look up "How to port forward with xxxxxx router" and theres always more than a few you can use.
