Hello all,

I have just bought a new (to me) MSI GTX 1080 from ebay and am trying to use an older Samsung tv as my display. By I'm getting sporadic errors where the signal will drop. Most of the time it will boot up and then drop the display as windows is loading. Prior to using the 1080 I had an entry level Nvidia quadro (that came with the computer) and never had any issues.

My setup is a Dell Precision T7500

dual x5670's

75 Gb ram

4 hdds

Stock 1100 power supply

And the 1080 gpu.

(Yes the 8 pin and 6 pin  are both plugged into the graphics card)

There are no error code beeps and all of the fans spin up just fine, I can even rdp into it. I have tried another tv three different hdmi cables and have tried using a displayport to hdmi adapter for the cable. And it never seems to work from the 1080s hdmi port. The only time it seems to work is when I use the adapter but if I bump the cable or unplug either end (tv or pc) and then replug it, the signal will be lost and I have to reboot the machine with the tv still on in order to get it back up.

I'm assuming that it either has something to do with the tv not liking they type of signal (maybe the hdmi version? Old tv?)

Sorry for the long post but would like some help, as this is my first pc build and I'm not sure how to further trouble shoot it.

Try a different port on your card to the TV.  After that you can try a different cable. Let us know.

I have tried both ports on the tv (both HDMI) and both on the card (one HDMI and the other displayport) I also pulled down the newest driver from nvidia's website and that seemed to fix it for a time. However today it happened again and no amount of power cycling will bring it back up. Now to be clear the only thing that seems to be wrong is the tv. Everything spins up and lights up. And most importantly I can RDP into the machine from my laptop just fine. But the tv just doesn't seem to get a signal.
