Hello, I am considering building a new Intel pc. I haven't built a PC in years and I am not experienced with Intel chipsets. I am wondering if anybody has recommendations for a good, Feature rich mobo for the latest generation of Intel CPU's

I am used to building budget computers hence the fact that i always go with AMD, but i am looking with a larger budget of 1500-1700 for the entire tower.

I would really prefer anything made by ASUS

(This is my first post)

things I need

  • NVMe M.2 Support
  • Atleast one usb 3.2 Type-C
  • DDR4 3200

Things I would like built in

  • Thunderbold
  • 802.11ax
  • Ability to see post codes on the mobo
  • Some kind of lighting on the mobo like RGB would be cool but that would be something really low on my list of features

I will post more if i think of anything else

If somebody doesn't mind pointing me in the right direction I would appreciate it, I work 60 to 70 hours a week right now and im usually too tired to do to much in depth research right now.

any reason why you won't use a Ryzen cpu?

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

This is the only Intel MoBo with built in 802.11ax https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z390 Phantom Gaming X/

This is one of the few Intel MoBo with built in Thunderbolt https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z390-DESIGNARE-rev-10#kf

My suggestion would be to get both WiFi and Thunderbolt via PCIe expansion so you're not limited to just 2 MoBo choices.

new amd boards support thunderbolt too. :D

I can only think of this board or the ATX TB variants (dunno if they are on market yet) that cover everything

Asrock have several, some build in, some with expansion card.

Understandable i wasn't aware the selection for those built in features were so limited, I'm fine with using pci cards any good asus boards with decent pci expansion that would fit the other capabilities I mentioned?

Just realized Thunderbolt is not a popular feature even in Intel motherboards.

Even i asus motherboards don't have one. I wonder why. Maybe nobody using them?

To tell you the truth i have no current use for Thunderbolt but I just wanna mess around with it in the future, Maybe incorporate it into any future additions to my setup, if the situation presented itself.

then you can have random motherboard and a pcie tb3 card.

Yeah I know I can do that I just wanted to see if there was an option to have it built then initially I guess there really isn't I guess it comes down to what chipset you would recommend, I have zero experience with any intel chipsets within the past 12 years basically since I started building computers, other than playing around with consumer-grade pre-built systems that contained Intel chipsets. also somebody told me that Intel's planning to drop prices on their ninth generation CPUs.

I have a Gigabyte board with 1 Thunderbolt 3 port built in. I have tried the Alpine Ridge card on boards that should accept it and had somewhat disappointing results. If you see Thunderbolt being useful in the future, get a board that has it built in. You'll avoid a lot of potential headache.
