It's virtual surround sound no headphone will give your true 7.1 surround experience only 7 speakers plus a sub could do that. Virtual surround sound will only attempt to improve the imaging and soundstage the headphone presents

You don't need the 7.1 to even get that effect the headphones themselves do a great job at that. But the g6 should be able to do just as good of a job. It's a good DAC /amp regardless
