Hello I have a friend that use to have a 6700 with a Hydro Series H80i GT. The 6700 would get around 65 to 70C under load (AIDA64 Stress test) and 30C at idle.

They got them self a 3700x on a B450 gaming pro carbon AC and the AM4 bracket for the Hydro Series H80i GT.

The problem is under a AIDA64 Stress test the CPU hits 90C straight away. At idle CPU temp is around 45 to 50C.

CPU block is on tightly and I even rotated it 180º still the same.

Is this strange or normal? I'm new to the 3rd Ryzen. Do they run that hot?

Any idea's?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they don't run that hot, and I'm the guy with a cooling solution so bad you have to hold your CPU cooler down if you want to lower your 65W CPU undervolted to 0.9V's IDLE temperatures from 80ºC to 60ºC

It's normal.

These AIOs are optimised to cool CPUs that have the die in the middle, so the copper micro fins are also located in the middle of the cooling plate.

Ryzen has the dies on the sides, so the cooling efficiency goes to hell with almost every water cooler.

That's actually pretty hard to figure out for most people.

Atleast the IO Die is cool /s

Thanks mate for that info. That's makes sense why the stock cooler (wraith cooler) can keep the 3700x at around 80ºC over the water cooler. That also means even a dual or newer aio would not work good as well, as I'm guessing their are all based on the same water block design? Is there any cooler that would work better than the stock then? if so what would your recommend?

If you are not happy with the stock cooler then just grab some better air cooler if you are not happy with the noise or temps of the CPU.

90*C under full load is still kinda OK but if you are reaching that high during gaming sessions, you may want to look into different cooling solutions. I wont recommend you anything in particular, there is a plethora of decent air coolers, just pick whatever you like.
