I think this is the best CPU you could put in that socket, but I'm not sure if the laptop would support it and I doubt it would be cooled properly.

Quote me to see my reply!

From what I can find all models run i5's and they are the midrange of the i5's so I'd say no to handling an i7 with that rather small cooler inside.

http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i5_Mobile/i5-3210M_(PGA).html

I upgraded a VAIO from a i3-2310m to a i7-2720QM and the cooling is fine so it is likely upgrading the i5-3210m to a similar 3rd gen 4 core, 8 threads processor will be successful but not certain.

I have found the best way to choose which CPU is to just look on eBay at what is available in your country for a good price. I wouldn't recommend going with any of the Chinese sellers which are all over eBay (sometimes even posing as local sellers) from my own experience and the long list of other people who have receieved defective products. There are a lot of rip off merchants on eBay selling these older processors for inflated prices so it is worth waiting around perhaps a month or two for something competitively priced.

Thanks for reaching out.  I have a Sony VAIO PCG71713L.  Just like how Cysero posted, I have done a similar exact upgrade 6 a few months ago and so far no overheating signs to report.  I did an upgrade from Core i5 2410M to i72720QM.  I would also consider replacing your hard drive with a solid state drive if you haven't done so.  From my experience the upgrade to SSD was the biggest game changer.  A good cooling pad will help.  Just make sure you get a good cooling pad with multiple fans and you should be good.  Please see for specs below for my upgrade.  Good luck.
