I'm looking at the Ryzen 5 3600 as a potential upgrade from my current i7-3770 (non OC) but I was wondering if it's going to give me a significant performance boost in video rendering and games?

I mainly use my PC for photo / 1080p video editing and some online games. My main game currently is Battlefield V and it feels as though my CPU is struggling to keep up with it after every new content release. At this moment, I can't reliably stay over 60fps on 64 player modes at 1080p or lower.

Would a ryzen 5 3600 (or anything in a similar price range) be a solid upgrade or should I just stick with the 3770 for now? I don't want to spend too much on a new CPU because I'm going to need a new mobo and RAM as well.

Thanks!

My current specs:

i7-3770 (Non OC) + Hyper 212x Cooler

ASUS ROG GTX 1060 6GB

ADATA 16GB DDR3 RAM

Yes, most definitely would. However, I would upgrade the GPU before.

A 1060 6GB is a perfectly adequate GPU, and will pair nicely with a 3600. The only component I see causing a performance issue in OP's system is the 3770k. If it was a 1060 3GB maybe, but no need for OP to upgrade from a 1060 6GB before upgrading the CPU.

Thanks! However I think the 1060 6GB will do me fine for now because I forgot to mention that I play on 1080p 60fps and the only games I'm probably going to be playing over the next year or so is BFV and R6 Siege. Right now in BFV, my CPU is almost always at 90+ usage whereas the GPU never goes above 40%

Yes it is... but if the R5 3600 is in reach I'd strongly consider it instead as that SMT will surely extend its longevity.
