Do power supply fan takes air inside the supply or blow it outside?

Go to solution Solved by spartaman64,

is there holes on the case for the psu. if so you can choose to point it towards the case and it will suck air from outside or you can point it towards the motherboard and it will suck air from inside. sucking air from outside will have cooler air for the psu sucking air from the inside helps cool your case a little. its personal preference. if there are no holes for the psu on the case if you point it towards the case the psu will suffocate

I buyed the corsair psu recently from amazon. I'm confused as I don't know how to place it inside the case. Should the fan face up towards case or down towards motherboard? I also want to know about the fan in the psu. What's the direction of the air? It takes air in or ouT?

There should be holes somewhere on the side panel so the fan should face that for intake air, the air is then moved in the rear (where there is the on/off switch of the PSU).

Are there holes in the case above where the PSU would go? If not, then no, you'd choke it if you placed the PSU so its fan is upwards.

It sucks air into the PSU.

The fan sucks air inside the PSU, and exhausts the air through the back.

I don't understand this "fan face up towards case". Does your case have PSU mounted on the top? In that case, obviously the fan won't do anything if it faces up towards the bare metal top.

I don't see any holes on the top of my case....

Then there's only one direction for you to mount the PSU in.

Yes. In my case psu is mounted on the top.

The direction is intake at the fan and exhaust where the power cable plugs in

Usually these days PSUs are mounted at the bottom and isolated from the case airflow - they take in air directly from the outside and exhaust it to the outside. If your case has a top-mount, it's gonna be taking air from the components below. Either way, the PSU should be oriented with the fan towards the bottom

Thanks guys for helping me out. I'm going to place the psu down where the fan faces the motherboard as there are no holes or grill on the top of the case..

What case do you have though ?

Okkkkk.I can drill some holes on the top of the case if that will help so I can place it facing up.

Yes that's also a good solution, though place a dust filter if you do that.
