Good day Ladies an Gentlemen!

I am planning to build a gaming rig to play 4k games on my samsung qe55q7fam.

My budget is around 4000 euro. I would prefer it to be as small as possible. I have never build PC's before, but would very much like to try it out.

I know that there is an significant input lag compared to monitors, but I am willing to sacrifice this. I would like to experience native 4k gaming.

I have no preference if it is a team blue or team red build as long the experience is smooth.

1. Budget & Location

4000 euro / switzerland. German amazon links would work.

2. Aim

FPS and AAA titles in 4k on the family TV.

3. Monitors

samsung qe55q7fam 4k QLED TV

4. Peripherals

Microsoft XBOX Elite controller for gaming and other things I will choose myself. It will be probably a keyboard, with a dedicated track pad for web browsing etc.

5. Why are you upgrading?

PS4 pro is not doing it anymore.

6. Case preference

Dan case is nice, as i would like to have a small form factor rig. Tempered glass side would be great to show off the RGB goodies.

Thank you!

How small do you want it?

It's not more than like $1500 EUR for a perfectly reasonable PC

Hard to find ITX cases with decent airflow for cooling, some of them are just glass hot boxes.

The Core 500 supports 240mm AIOs or taller air coolers

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I would actually swap the ryzen CPU I suggested with a 9700k and z390 motherboard because it’s only a gaming pc. Intel CPUs are also a little more forgiving for first time builders since the pins are on the motherboard - not the CPU.

There's really no difference for installing the CPU lol

But more than likely he can get a bios update for a B450 board from the store, or the store will have already updated the bios. because X570 ITX boards are overpriced

There’s no difference until you remove the stock cooler after doing a test boot and the cpu comes out of the socket with the cooler. And then on top of that you drop the CPU while trying to remove it from the cooler it is stuck to bending the pins. Sadly, I’m talking from personal experience.

With a €4000 budget it doesn’t really make any sense saving 80 bucks on a b450 motherboard that won’t have as good VRMs. Also, if it’s only gaming intel just flat out gives more performance in the high end.

He doesn't actually need to spend that much though

and you just give the cooler a tiny twist before trying to rip your CPU out

it's also 4k gaming, which is probably 60hz, so even a cheap CPU is perfectly fine, which is why it's likely worth going with the 3700X over the 9700K for anything he might do besides gaming, as it has twice the threads.

The VRM difference isn't worth the $100 to go from B450 to X570 on the ITX boards.

I totally agree, you could do the build around 1800€ with a 2080 super, 3700x, and a b450 motherboard and get very similar performance.

First time building is scarry though, so it is also nice to limit the amount of things that can go wrong even if it costs a bit more.

Question: My TV is unable to run higher than 60 fps (maybe even less), but will I get even 60 fps with the above mentioned setup?

I like the Streacom DA2 case and that's the size i would love to go with, but understand that thermals are important and I would consider going a little bigger with the case and the morherboard. Maybe an mATX board would work too.

I do have 4k to spend and of course i wouldn't want to spend that much. 2.5k to 3k is perfect.

That case is fine with all the mesh, but I only see a few listings for $200-$300

The Core X1, while larger and kind of old, is going to be pretty easy to work in for an ITX case, and supports massive CPU coolers.

And you could just get a 2080 super or something, but you can also just enable Radeon image sharpening at 70-80% of 4k on an RX 5700 XT at half the price, and it's going to look just fine, it's what I do for most of my 4k gaming on the 5700.

But ya there's like a cost optimized build, don't need to go crazy on the CPU for 60hz gaming.

I went a little more ham with the budget, but if you want the most balls to the wall 4K gaming rig that's slightly bigger than an Xbox:

  • Basically a budget 8700K (ez clap for 4K gaming), but more importantly it can run very cool, important for this compact case
  • C7 Cu, basically the best CPU cooler that can fit in this case (and I envy you, Cryorig doesn't sell coolers in the US anymore due to tariffs)
  • X570 ITX mobo, no need to worry about the CPU not working out of the box
  • 32GB RAM because uh... you've got the budget for it, so why not? Some games like Star Citizen and a good few modded titles can eat over 16GB, so if you have the money for it then why not remove running out of RAM as a possibility?
  • 2x 2TB NVMe SSDs, they're pretty much a 970 Evo but cheaper (actually slightly faster in most tests btw). I run my games off a 970 Evo, the difference in load times in most titles is quite noticeable
  • RTX 2080 Ti, the STRIX one because it should have damn solid cooling (EVGA is another excellent option, IDK what their support is like there but here in the US they're hands down the best in the biz), again important in this small case
  • Node 202, just a bit bigger than most Xboxes, but packs full desktop hardware
  • SF 600W, excellent unit and plenty of wattage

If you don't want to try and cram stuff in a tiny case, you can go a bit bigger and get a larger CPU cooler, will be easier to build that way. I think all this hardware would fit in the dan case as well if you just wanted to swap that in, I can double check it all for you if you'd like.
