Depends on what you're into, and what you already have, but they've given away a fair amount of pretty damn decent games, including a bundle of the 3 Batman Arkham games and Lego Batman games.

The games I've snagged that I'd recommend are

Abzu - "walking" simulator, worth snagging screenshots in

Alan Wake + American Nightmare - an excellent third person action thriller

Axiom Verge - A great 2d metroidvania

Celeste - platformer

Enter the Gungeon - sort of a Shmup

Fez - 2.5d puzzle game

Moonlighter - 2d dungeon crawler with light store management

Stories Untold - a series of different styles of games with an overarching narrative

Subnautica - first person survival

Torchlight - action rpg thing

Transistor - turn based action strategy

Edith Finch - walking simulator

Hyper Light Drifter has broken audio on my system, so I can't recommend it, but that's a pretty sizeable list. I've skipped a few games I already have on other platforms and don't remember the entire lineup. A lot of the other games I'd say are worth a playthrough, but the only ones I really haven't liked are Conarium (Walking sim), This War Of Mine (2d survival game), GNOG (Puzzle... I guess?) Last Day of June (walking sim.)

Edit* As to Soma, Observer, and Layers of Fear, I think "horror" games generally suck and don't work for me. I wouldn't recommend any of them, but plenty of others like them. Soma was also given away free on GOG a year or two ago, and I think Layers of Fear and Outlast were free on Humble.

Because Epic Games are in the pockets of Tencent games who in turn have close links to the Chinese government.

I've got enough to worry about with western governments spying on me without possibly giving the Chinese a backdoor to my PC.

Also what they're doing with exclusives is disgusting and I refuse to support any company that would act in that way.

Why worry about supporting any company period? What's wrong with just playing games? And how is what anyone does with their exclusive anything disgusting in any way? It is of their own creation and I think they can choose to do anything they wish with it since it is in their hands.

1) It doesnt affect the gameplay. It does possibly affect the legitimacy of the platform though.

2) Because the Chinese government have form for spying on their own citizens and trying to spy on everyone.

3) You installed Epic Games Launcher, you don't know what its doing behind the scenes.

4) By installing their platform you are, by extension, automatically supporting them.

5) Using Chinese money to buy up exclusives is disgusting behaviour. Before EGS platform exclusivity was a console only problem, Epic single handedly brought it into PC gaming.

  • "Possibly" affect the legitimacy of the platform? What does that mean exactly?
  • And this affects me how? They can spy all they want, all they'll find is me playing free games.
  • Nor do I care. I have nothing to hide. They can have all they find. What they gonna do with it in China? And how does it affect me if I'm still gaming away?
  • If I automatically support them, for FREE, what makes this wrong? Or something to worry about, in any way.
  • Disgusting behavior? Are you saying you don't pick your nose? Do you not sit on a throne and drop a deuce? And what exactly makes games exclusive to certain platforms a problem for you? If I don't even buy or worry about these games in the first place, how could it possibly affect me? Some exclusives are temporary to certain platforms and you could just get them when they are available on that platform. They're not the greatest games of all time you know. It's beyond simple to wait or not even worry about these games. Some new games I have no clue are even on the Epic Games store because while I am "automatically supporting them", it's a FREE process. I'm not paying their bills and providing them with Yachts.

Because once again, a minority shareholder has majority vote over what goes on and installs backdoor spy-traps because they really want to know what games you play. Meanwhile Google literally keeps track of all your browser information, reads your emails, and has GPS tracking on your phone.

As to exclusives? Who really gives a shit? They aren't doing anything that Sony, MS, Nintendo, and countless others do. It's a fucking storefront, it's not like you have to buy another console. They're also only timed exclusives and the deal ends after a year. Get your panties untied.

and EGS DID NOT bring exclusivity into PC gaming. Steam, uPlay, Bethesda.net, Origin, MS, Battle.net etc. have all had exclusivity before EGS was in the picture. You could even consider GOG, since they bring back old games that aren't for sale anywhere else. The only difference is EGS offers an incentive to third parties, and it's entirely up to them whether or not they take it. This argument is stupid. I mean shit, I'd heavily argue Steam has a vast amount of exclusives because you can't get the games anywhere else, including a vast majority of third party titles. But then people argue that Steam didn't sign a contract, but the end result is the same.

I've never felt that I have to have any game exclusive to anywhere in my entire life. When I hear people talk about Spiderman or God of War on the PS4, I ask these exact same people how many hours they've put into both games and none of them have told me they hit any large amount of hours in either of them. I can't be missing out on anything special.

I can't be missing out on anything special.

Haven't played Spider-man, but I did get Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn, borrowing God of War from a buddy, and The Last of Us from my brother, and I'm not sure he's ever going to ask for it back. Yes, I bought a $400 console to play 4 games. Death Stranding isn't out yet.

Persona 5 I didn't like as much as P3 and P4, but I still completed it at 150 hours and I've decided to do a NG+ to "finish" anything I missed the first time. That play time will be inflated by times I make dinner or just leave it running while I do other things, but that's also most other games.

Horizon Zero Dawn... I at least completed and enjoyed thoroughly. I might replay it at some point, but for certain more than once I've just wandered around and listened to the environments for an hour or two.

God of War I enjoyed, played to completion, but there's clear areas of cut content and some limited combat, especially compared to the prior titles. The story is good, but the mythology is weird, but most importantly they kept talking about Thor, but he never shows up until an after credits scene MCU style. The new combat system somewhat limits the scope of encounters and there's not really any good big boss battles like in the previous games. I also hate the RPG and leveling systems. It's a good starting point to another trilogy.

Anyways, for this weeks free games, I've already given my opinion on not personally liking Layers of Fear, so I'll go for QUBE 2.

Long story short, it's portal, but not as good. Instead of portals in a free-form fashion, you place cubes in pre-determined locations, so there's only really one way to solve puzzles. A lot of things end up just taking a lot of time so you kind of stand around a lot, and placing and activating cubes never feels particularly responsive like the portal gun did. A lot of the puzzles have the exact same solutions, and sometimes the physics can make you redo the correct solution a few times before it works. The cubes aren't particularly interesting in what they can do, and they're a big limiting factor in what kind of interactions and puzzle solutions can exist.

Graphically, it actually looks pretty good and does a decent job of screen space reflections and bounce lighting to give things a clean shine, which contrasts a bit later when also following portals footsteps, it goes into an older and less polished section.

There's a story. I couldn't understand what they were saying because the volume was low, and there's some processing effects on certain speech that makes it hard to understand.

When I hear people talk about Spiderman or God of War on the PS4, I ask these exact same people how many hours they've put into both games and none of them have told me they hit any large amount of hours in either of them. I can't be missing out on anything special.

The fact that I don't want to use Epic Game Store. It's also not just the fact I "can't" gain access, it's the idea of exclusives in general.

Sorry, but I'm not willing to sell out my beliefs over some free shiny objects. But you do you.

You're probably just asking to list ones that are on Epic Game Store. Won't work, I'll still have absolutely no interest in using their service. I can get the games elsewhere.

That doesn't mean that won't happen in the future. That's like saying "I don't care that they're blowing up random houses on my block. It hasn't happened to mine yet."

Why don't you want to use the Epic Games store? The reason you don't want to use it.

What beliefs? Not sure what free video games have to do with religion. And you don't have to sell anything to use a free launcher to play free games.

I'm asking of the games that you play in general. Wherever you play them. Whatever they may be. Especially the ones you play the most. If ALL the games you've ever been interested in were on the Epic Games store, why on earth would you still have absolutely no interest in using their launcher to play them? Especially if they're FREE or dirt cheap. It's just a launcher, it's not going to bite you. Why get the games elsewhere? The reason for this is...?

I don't live in Afghanistan. And that hasn't happened to mine yet because of that.

I've already explained that to you.

You do realize that a belief doesn't have to have any religious connotation to it, right? Again, I have no idea how you can't comprehend what's wrong with that.

I already have a game library elsewhere. Why would I completely start over?

Having a game become an exclusive on a platform you don't have (or even a pay service you're not signed up for), that you want to play.

It was a metaphor, which apparently is completely above your level of comprehension. I apologize.

I have a tough time understanding people. Explain it in one sentence. State the main reason you don't use the Epic Games launcher. As in if this main reason did not exist, you would be using their launcher. If there's more than one main reason, include them in the sentence.

Sure. I can realize that.

For more games of course. And a variety of games and genres at that. And they just so happen to not cost anything. I have 7 game libraries. Steam, Origin, UPlay, Epic Games, GOG, Blizzard(a rather tiny library) and IndieGala. And the reason is so I can own more games to play them at any point in time. I collect all these games so that I don't have to pay for them in the future on one platform when that platform eventually decides to drop their price to where I would actually purchase said game. It's a LOT easier to not pay for the game or get it for dirt cheap and play it rather than waiting years for it to drop in price. You think I'm stupid enough to pay $64.00 a pop when that $64.00 game eventually becomes dirt cheap, or... FREE. My entire FREE Epic Games library has an insane retail value of over $1,000. Same with all the other libraries actually. You think I want or even have the money to pay that entire retail value?

Of course said games will be on other platforms in the future. Provided they are free or dirt cheap by that time, I'll look into said games existence. Until then, I could care less that the game even exists because I already own hundreds of games to keep me occupied until then.

Most definitely. You see, I slept throughout my education. I do wish I could go back and wake up but it's a bit late to do that now.

Even if a house blew up down the street, there's absolutely nothing I can do to keep that from happening to me. It's out of my hands. It's like preparing all year for a tornado. Simply, a waste of time.

I already have. If you go back up and read my comment, you'll find out.

The point is I'm not going to support a company (yes, downloading their launcher and taking their free stuff is still supporting them) who doesn't align with my values. You can do that for shiny things if that's what's most important to you, it's not something I'll do.

I'd rather pay for them and have a single platform. I'd also rather not wait years for a price drop if there's a game I want to play at launch.

Games really have no value if I don't plan to ever play them.

There's no guarantee said games will come to other platforms. There's countless PS games that never make it to PC.There's also no stopping EG from offering even larger amounts of money for extended periods of time.

You're never too old to learn. Poor excuse.

There is, but you keep sticking your head in the sand and thinking that.

Not if you live in Oklahoma. Or preparing for a hurricane in Florida.
