So I want to get into the Plex/Kodi game. I am currently converting my DVD/Blu-ray collection to digital and now I need to be able to store and watch them from my various televisions in the house. I want to build something but keep the price reasonable and not get carried away with way too much performance. I will not be gaming on this machine and will use it for Plex/Kodi and file storage.

Here is what I was thinking.

MSI X470GPlus Motherboard

AMD Ryzen 5 3400G

16GB of RAM

Start with 2 M.2 Drives (for OS with redundancy) and 2 enterprise grade hard drives (again with redundancy)

I would have a max two streams going at the same time.

Would this get me through with room to grow? Any opinions?

No way, that's is too much performance.

For file / video storage you don't need that much power.

For a total price of over $500 you can just buy a Synology NAS.

Of if you have an old PC lying around like core2duos you can use it too.

plus no need for M.2 SSD drives, just use a regular HDD.

Streaming videos is doesn't need high performance.
