My laptop won't see the external monitor

Hello!

I have a litle issue here

I recently bought an external monitor which is LG 34UM69G

And i wanted to connect it to my Legion y540 through mini displayport-displayport cable

And the problem is that my laptop doesn't recognize it through this displayport cable, but it does through regular hdmi cable.

I want to connect it through the displayport because of the freesync

It also seems like the monitor is recgnizing that it has been connected to the computer because when i turn it (monitor) on while the laptop is on it tells that it has detected a new input from the displayport and when i switch the inputs on the monitor after a few seconds it says that no signal and it goes to power saving mode
It happpens on windows and linux

i dont have any other monitor on displayport to check it

I was wondering about buying a minidp to hdmi cable just to check if the port in my laptop works

All drivers are up to date
