Recently, two of my noctua A12x25 start to make faint ticking noise.

I have read some posts saying that pwm ic will produce ticking sound.

Is it normal for A12x25 to make such noise? or do I get defective units?

Switching to Voltage control from PWM doesn't seem to make a difference.

I had that problem because 3 NF-A14 PWM were on a 3 pin fan hub, i used a PWM Y splitter that I owned, plug it to a 4 pin header on the motherboard and no noise since then.

I plugged A12x25 directly to the motherboard 4 pin PWM, but it still produce same ticking noise :/

Does it happens all the time or only when it's spinning slowly, rapidly ? Mine was when it was spinning slowly.

The ticking noise frequency increases or decreases with fan rpm.

So you have that in Voltage and PWM settings, did you try auto ? What is the Fan speed too (silent, manual, auto, full speed) ?

Edit : Did you try another header ?

I run fan at constant 1600 rpm with PWM.

I tried using voltage control, but ticking noise persists.

Time for RMA then.

Did you set to Auto or PWM in BIOS, because I have experienced something similar when using auto.

Make sure there aren't any cables too close to the frame. Check the fan cables that's inside of the fan frame to make sure it's flat.
