Using a symbolic link to SD card for Windows update caching?

More strange ideas. My SO has an HP Stream with the 32gb soldered SSD. They use it for web browsing, email and facebook, so it's performing fine in that role, and they like it. But, I'm well aware that that 32gb drive is going to cause problems when Windows updates. So, thinking of things to do to keep it from tanking sooner than it needs to.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to use a symbolic link to an SD card to hold the Windows downloads and rollbacks? Thinking that might take some load off of the main drive, but wondering A) if that is actually possible and B) if it's going to have strange side effects. Also wondering what sort of AD card would be better for that sort of thing.

Thank you,

A) Yes and I actually do it.

B) Yes if you link system files to another drive and that drive fails, you might be looking in to reinstalling windows.

No problems on my end so far, follow this tutorial.
