Looking for feedback on my AMD penultimate setup (first time builder here)

Hi There!

First off thank you for reading! First time poster, but long time fan of LTT.

I am working on my first gaming PC build inspired by Linus/Riley’s July video ‘Cheap vs. Expensive Gaming’ (video: https://youtu.be/75L8Hrb49A4 ) - but with a few twists to it:

  • In the video, Riley is working with a total budget that has to include a Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse. Since I already own the required items here - I have more budget I wanted to allocate to performance upgrades (My main monitor is a ASUS VG278Q 27", 1080p, 144Hz, G-Sync)
  • I wanted to incorporate the AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors that were unable to make an appearance in Riley’s video.
  • I wanted to find a sweet spot between Riley’s “Glow-Up” build at $2500 and his “Gentleman” build of $1500 — Basically I have around a ~$2125 budget, but would spend up to $2500 (max) for the right value adds.

What I plan to do/Why am I upgrading:

  • I do a ton of multi tasking for my job, basic management type work (15+ chrome browser windows typically active - wanted Chrome to be extra snappy, video calls, spotify, ect..all at once during the day), but also LOVE to game when I’m off the clock (I’d love to be able run Battlefield V on Ultra for example). If I had to pick, i'd want this system optimized for gaming first and foremost.
  • I wanted a system that could be my daily diver for work, deliver a fantastic gaming experience, and maintain upgradability into the future (also wanted a case with great airflow and a IO that featured a Type-c port).
  • Wanted to include extra storage for games as well.

Questions:

  • I’d love for the ability to overlock my CPU and wanted to be sure my power, cooling and motherboard setup was as optimal as it could be under budget.
  • Regarding the Ryzen 7 3700x: do you think from a price to performance standpoint (and given the context of my 'daily driver/gaming' use-case), do I lose out by not selecting a Ryzen 9 3900X? Is it worth the extra cash from a material impact on performance standpoint?
  • Memory speeds/timing: From what I understand AMD cpu performance can be impacted by memory speeds, is DDR4-3600 the best way to go here? What if any should I consider with Timing? I wanted to stick with Corsair components so I can use icue to synchronize all my RGB - wanted to avoid too many RGB sync software systems. Any drawbacks or performance considerations to this brand vs say T-force Vulcans?
  • Does anyone have any preference on X570 boards? The Asus bios seems to be user friendly with a new nice features, I liked the PCI Express 4.0 being future forward, however i'm open for suggestions. My Main requirement its a optimal for third-gen ryzen, type c port on the IO, and ideally, I wanted to be able power 5 fans (3 on the side of case, and two on the bottom, plus my H100i, and looking at form factors that fit my Lian LI case, don't need anything small or compact from a sizing standpoint).
  • Its my first time building a PC (converting from MAC OSX after 10 years!!) -- I just wanted to sure I’m not missing anything too obvious here before I buy everything and wanted a 2nd option from the LTT community (y'all rock) — Am I putting money into the wrong areas? If so what are good comparable alternatives?

Apologies in advance if my parts list or questions come off uninformed, I’m here to learn! Thanks so much for your comments and feedback to my parts list! (also note this list does not include additional fans here, I wanted to deploy Noctua's for everything used in the case on top of my H100i).

Hi There!

That is a very overpriced AIO, a $60 dual tower air cooler will do just fine. Or for the 011 Dynamic do a custom water cooling loop, and include your GPU

This kit is pretty cheap, but then you have to find an aluminum GPU water block, or make the loops separate.

If you aren't doing custom water cooling in the 011 dynamic I would just get a coolermaster H500, with it's 2 200mm RGB fans.

That is an overpriced 3600mhz RAM kit CL18, get some at CL16, you can buy RGB RAM heatsinks later too

That appears to be an older or used 3TB hard drive, should buy something better and probably just get a 4TB NAS hard drive

Way too much for just a 1TB SSD, you can get a 2TB 660p for $200

You really don't need a 2080 super for a 1080p 144hz display, I'd get a better value RX 5700 XT, and use the savings to upgrade to a 1440p 100-120hz ultrawide display.

You can get a windows key for $5 on ebay and it will work just fine.

Wow Streetguru thank you so much for your feedback here! Very helpful recommendations -- I really loved your point about the RX 5700 XT, and useing the savings to upgrade to a 1440p 100-120hz ultrawide!! Such a good point and the unltrawide would be nice for work in addition to gaming. Thanks again for all of the above

Are you going to end up with a custom water cooling loop? Or just do airflow?

You can also always get cheap RGB fans from aliexpress or ebay, same factories as the name brand guys too most likely.
