[EOL] PSU Tier List rev. 14.8

What happens if you use a lower tier PSU than recommended? I have a mid-range system with a Xilence XP500 (D tier), that should have enough voltage to power my system, what are the dangers of this setup?

I'm a bit uneducated on reading this part of the tier list:

"EVGA | Supernova G2(L) / GT / GS =>850W / P2 / PS / T2 (<=1200W/1600W)"

Is it saying that the entirety of the GT lineup of PSUs is tier A, or only up to 850W (unless that only applies to GS)? Looking at purchasing an EVGA PSU and the 1000W and 1300W GT lineup seems like really good value for the price but I'm not sure what the drawbacks are as someone who's building a computer for the first time.

Entirety of GT is tier A.

Last update was 30 Oct 2021, can anyone help point out which can now be used as an updated PSU Tier list? Thanks!

Keep using that one, there will be an update soon from what I've heard, or you can use the spreadsheet's upcoming changelog IIRC

Note I'm not a part of this list's development, just been sluething in the chat.

@jonnyGURU But my post is not about help choosing a power supply ?, it's just a classic picture of PSU innards, of cool new products, like I've posted many times before, any many others have ?

Just general interesting stuff in PSU space. nothing more nothing less. Sure I'm hoping some of the regulars more knowledgeable than me comment, but that's just icing on the cake, I'm satisfied just more people noticing it's out in the market (like I am for every new, interesting, cool, progressive PSU that comes).

P.S. I apologize for causing a misunderstanding, turns out there was no need for a link to tech news, or alternatively could have just done pics here as well, I misremembered why my previous post was moved by a mod (specifically due a misunderstanding that it was a first party post).

I notice some entries missing, like the original Riotoro Enigma which is present in the list on LTT forums but not on the cultists link despite it being newer. Anyone know why that is?

Is the MSI A-GF 850w multi-rail or single rail?

On the OP's own website (Tier list REV 16.0) the MSI unit is now a single rail but is multi-rail in here...

Almost all (if not all, can't remember exactly) the newer PSUs aren't actual real old-school multi-rail.

It's just a case of, a single-rail divided into multiple pseudo-rails. Not really relevant, on it's own, but you do need to read the manual, check the webpage, read a review for limitations.

For the MSI A-GF 850W that just means you can't have 4x PCI_E connectors plugged in and used with 2x EPS connectors plugged in (into the graphic cards and motherboard. Max is ~5. But that's connectors and the PSU has 18AWG cables so you shouldn't be plugging the pig-tails anyway with 3080 TI/3090/3090Ti/6900XT/6950XT and other 300W+ models.

Specifically it's no problem you can have 4x PCI_E cables plugged into the 3 PCIE and 1 VGA sockets on the PSU, and the have the CPU cable plugged on the PSU side.

Just that you need to have only 1 EPS plugged on the motherboard side if you're maxing out GPU connectors with multiple GPUs (or when using the new Gen 5 12VHWRP adapters). Having 3 Cables used and 3 plugged into the GPU is fine. It's just now that we're talking about a 5th connector plug-in, that's the last one, can't do a 6th connector plug-in.

Aris explained it on his review of the 750W unit:

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/msi-mpg-a750gf-power-supply-review

And same like on Seasonic website, there's guidelines on the MSI page for the 850W psu and in the manual for how to use the cables with high wattage cards:

https://www.msi.com/Power-Supply/MPG-A850GF

https://download.msi.com/archive/mnu_exe/psu/PSU_MPG_A650GF_A750GF_A750GF_WHITE_A850GF.pdf

So the only options in my country that are not overpriced to high heavens that are highly rated are

Antec | Neo Eco Gold [yellow-label]

Huntkey | MVP K - WDK-K

Anyone with more insight to either of these? Theres hardly any reviews on them but they must be in B tier for a good reason right?

Im only using a 1650 but I desperately need a decent psu since my area has a lot of blackouts and power irregularities

Did I just create a profile in LTT's forum because something ticked me the wrong way?
Yes.
Was it about how you measured/tested a certain PSU?
Yes.

The EVGA 600B are the most quite powerful, endurable and reliable PSUs I had for a while and always suggest to clients to buy them. I suggest them from my own experience.
This PSU ran through outtage through outtage and fires and hells. And it's still as faithful as day one and only a few days ago the cooler whined reminding me that I was due for a cleaning and lubrication and that I couldn't push it any longer than I was already doing (the maintenance in general). I've seen a 600B dealing with a 10xxx Intel and a 3060RTX running -as- smooth and cool (no overheating), though I wouldn't dare adding mechanical drives into it. Gladly it was just an ALL-SSDs computer. I'm aware it might not be enough for a 3090, barely for a 3070 and obviously, not suited for a SLI-enabled system (unless you are deaing with lesser cards).

So, after some TL;DR; text and reviving an old thread, my question is...

How did you come up that this PSU is only suited only for low, cheap, iGPU-only systems, when from my own experience is a good cheap PSU suited for a very respectable system...?

Going through the GTX 9xx fiasco and GTX 1xxx on a GTX 760 while using this PSU untill I moved onto a GTX 1660. So... quite a vet PSU it is nowdays.

Is that rhetorical? The methodology is easily accessible in the first post, and well documented.
