[1070TI] Weird GPU noise

Go to solution Solved by Mateyyy,

The (coil whine) sound can vary from component to component, it doesn't always have to be high-pitched. This could be solved by using a different PSU sometimes, but I wouldn't really upgrade my PSU just for this reason alone. Since coil whine in GPUs usually occurs at very high framerates, you could try limiting your FPS in games where this happens, and it might reduce or even eliminate the noise.

Hi! Last year i bought a new GPU for my computer, and since upgrading I have had this strange annoying sound. At first it didn't bother me as i normally wear headphones, but it's starting to get really annoying now. I upgraded from a GTX 680 to a 1070TI. Anyone knows what this sound might be? It's only there when i'm gaming, once I alt tab out of a game it goes away. I have tried to stop all my fans one at a time, and can confirm it's not a fan making the sound. I tried switching back to my old 680 yesterday and the sound was gone.

MSI g45
Corsair AX750
GTX 1070 TI

If it only appears during higher loads its coil whine (nothing to worry about it's just annoying)

Only under load yes, I know about coil whine, but I thought that was more of a high pitch sound. My sounds more like something is vibrating like hell.

It does partly go away when applying V-Sync in some games. Lately I have been playing a lot of Kingdom Come, where the sound is just barely reduced with v sync.
The store i bought my GPU from opened a RMA case for me, and i'm waiting for what they are going to say once they receive the card.
Since my PSU is almost 7 years old, I'm thinking about switching it out anyway when upgrading to Ryzen soon. Any recommendations?

Many games nowadays include in-game FPS limiters, so I'd rather suggest using that (if available), usually found in the video settings, but sometimes in the game's cfg file.

My recommendation would be Corsair's RMx. In its price range, it's one of if not the best quality PSU you can get. A 550W unit will be enough for pretty much any single-GPU config, though you could go for a 650W variant if you feel you'd like the extra headroom. I've personally got one in my personal rig (had it for about 3 months now) and has made the coil whine on my 2070 almost disappear (in my old rig I was using a be quiet! Pure Power).
