The new items are the CPU, MOBO and RAM. Those are upgraded from i5 4690K, Z97-A and Corsair Vengeance 2x4 GB 1600mhz.

GPU will be upgraded in the future and I'll be adding an SSD. This is for 1080p 144hz gaming.

Appreciate any insight, thanks

looks good. i love the dark pro memory. really nice heat-spreader and easy overclock. I'd recommend adding the ssd from the start though, even just a small one for your OS

I'm thinking once I get the new stuff installed I can sell my old parts for enough to buy an SSD.

FYI you can tap the settings icon next to prices on PCPP and check "manually enter price" and then "mark as purchased", will simplify the list:

Also for the list itself, looks solid. Just:

^ an SSD is an excellent choice and they're not that expensive now, prices have come down massively.

As for possible tweaks, is there a specific reason you need X570? 3000 series works fine in B450 boards, and the good ones can even handle up to a stock 3950X.

If I were to tweak it slightly, I'd go for something like this:

B450 board and added an SSD, comes out cheaper than with the X570 board and no SSD. PCPP still throws a warning that the BIOS might need to be updated, but for this specific B450 it won't. The MAX series ships with a Zen 2 compatible BIOS - and has a couple slight tweaks to the BIOS storage - other than that it's a standard B450 Tomahawk (and the Tomahawk was already one of the best B450 boards).

I really only went with the X570 because its the latest gen and I wanted to future proof but I've actually considered going down to a B450 to save money. I like the idea of saving money on the mobo and adding the SSD so thanks for that.

Unless you're planning on doing one of these 3 things:

  1. getting a single GPU that's more powerful than the 2080 Ti by a decent bit (the 2080 Ti/Titan RTX are the only cards to even push the bandwidth limit of PCIe 3.0 x16 AFAIK, even then I don't know if they quite max it out)
  2. doing a lot of heavy video editing with a workflow that will benefit from PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs
  3. Slapping the heaviest OC possible on a 3900X or 3950X

then the X570 isn't any more future proof. X570 is an additional tier on top of the old stuff, so the order now goes X570 > X470 (the replacement for X370) > B450 (the replacement for B350). It didn't replace anything, it just offers PCIe 4.0 and I think a couple minor things. On average X570 mobos will have better VRMs, but that's about it (and good B450 boards can already handle any CPU in the lineup at stock, or OCed if you're running a 3600 or 3700X).

As far as bang for your buck goes you're better off with the B450 boards (X470 is just B450 with SLI support, and on some boards better VRMs). Unless you were going with a 3900X or higher, or have a looser budget, X570 isn't really worth the money. Plus you'll definitely notice the benefit of a good SSD long before the B450 board starts slowing you down.
