BIOS update required for Z370 Motherboard, no i-8xxx

Z390 works out of the box with 9th gen.

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my Desktop soon, meaning new mb, CPU, cooler and RAM.

I'll probably go with the ASUS Prime Z370-A II for mb and the i7-9700k for CPU. Since the mb doesn't support the CPU without BIOS update I will need a separate CPU just for updating. I'm trying to not have to spend another 120€ for an i3-8xxx..

I read about AMD sending old Ryzen CPUs to those that have a new one for updating. Is there such a offer for Intel too?

What do you guys recommend?

i'd recommend:

 

1) Going Ryzen

2) Getting an 8700K if you're keeping that board.

3) Getting a new motherboard if you are keeping that 9700K

 

Your combo of board and CPU don't make sense considering the BIOS issue you're having.

What I often see people recommending is bringing the board to your local computer repair shop. They often have a CPU that will alow you to update the board without you having to buy a compatible CPU to do the update yourself.

Why not just buy a z390 already? Pricing should be about the same anyways.

The Z390 boards were created specifically for the 9 series.
