Hey, I've got myself a new kit of RAM because I needed 32GB and I'm having a really hard time trying to get some more out of them.

I'm really not sure why this kit is so reluctant about using anything but the factory settings but no matter what I do, I can't get it to work with either tighter timings or higher clocks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with the stock performance but it really bothers me that I cannot overclock it at all.

Here's the new kit's number: G.SKILL 32GB Flare X DDR4 3200MHz CL16 KIT F4-3200C16D-32GFX

Maybe it's just me doing something wrong but my old Corsair kit was pretty good at overclocking. I was able to get it down from 2666MHz 16-18-18-18-38 to 2666MHz 14-14-14-32 which I think is decent considering cl14 kits are super expensive here but this new kit just doesn't want to budge.

What do you guys think? Is it just me being dumb or, are these dual rank kits just don't OC as well?

Higher capacity is harder to OC, dual rank sticks are harder to OC than single rank sticks with double the per-chip capacity but easier than double the number of single rank sticks with the same per-chip capacity.

It could also be the CPU or the board tho, since you're running higher frequency in the first place

Ah, so I basically went from easy mode to hard with this kit, in terms of overclocking. Still, not being able to underclock it is kinda shady to me, it should be easier for it to run at 2666MHz, right?

Now that I think about it, I did have to slightly raise my CPU vcore when I got the new kit so that might also mean that it's having a harder time running it.

i can't overclcock my cl timing too...so i overclock the clockspeed to 3733mhz cl17 at 1.4v...
