So this is a "budget" build I came up with for a friend, parameters are simple, don't go to far past $700 (currently about $706), must pair well with a 1920 x 1080 144hz freesync monitor, must be able to create content and stream with minimal system impact (game of focus is destiny 2). It doesn't need to be able to go max settings and always push 144fps 24/7 but min/maxing price to performance is always ideal, and he's fairly competitive. Build so far:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600

Mobo: ASRock B450M Micro AM4

RAM: 16gb of ddr4-3000

Storage: 860 evo 500gb ssd

GPU: MSI Radeon RX 580 8gb

PSU: EVGA BQ 600W 80+ bronze

So for budget reason I went with second gen Ryzen CPU, and this is where I have my only real question, would it be better to go with 3rd gen Ryzen 3 with 4 cores or stay 2nd gen Ryzen 5 with 6 cores so he can make content and all that fun stuff? Are 3rd gen Ryzen's worth it, are they really that good? I have a good amount of experience building computers but I always like to make sure it get it right, so second opinions are nice.

Im forced to ask, and I know the manufacture website says it supports 3rd gen ryzen out of box, but I won't have to flash the bios correct? If recall correctly the MAX series of B450 were made with 3rd gen ryzen in mind, just wanna make sure, cause that is a small issue, i know PC part picker compatibility checker lies sometimes, but it is red flagging me with a problem I'm familiar with...

Yup that's exactly that, it's also why I included the MAX version ;) In fact everything is a bit better for the same price which is nice :D

So I've noticed, excellent! Always helps to have a few extra eyes go over something, especially when you are as busy as I!

that's a pretty garbo motherboard, i'd go with a pro4 and take the risk of not having the newest BIOS preinstalled over that.

the board you picked doesn't even have a heatsink, so good luck keeping that VRM cooled if he upgrades to anything else. the pro4 is at least enough for a 3900x on the other hand.

Well since the budget was low I didn't consider any near upgrade nor any OC tbh but it's noted :)

just write off anything without a heatsink or A320 on AM4, neither of them are worth anyone's time.

OK, I had already removed any a320, too bad they didn't released the b550 at the launch too...

I mean there wont be ant OCing going on here, if he upgrades anything i suspect it would be more ram to ensure a smooth steam experience. So i gotta ask is the B450 PRO-M2 MAX still worth it if the only foreseeable upgrades would be more RAM and maybe a better "budget" card after 2 or 3 years?

The MP34 and silicon power A80 are both light years ahead of the 860 evo while costing less. Otherwise it's fine.

Fair enough, but Samsung is a name that both myself and the person I'm building this for has used in past and have proved very reliable. When I upgrade my personal build I'll happy experiment around with different recommendations.

https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2198?vs=2433 you're paying an extra 25% more for the 860 evo to get 2-4 times worse performance than either drive while having a worse endurance rating by 80TBW.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W
