3900x or wait a month to get the money for a 3950x

So I whould like to purchase a 3950x around Christmas time but I won't have the money to get the ram I want to pair with the chip so should I step down for the 3900x or wait a month so I can  get the ram with the 3950x

Do you even need a 12/16 cores processor? from my memory you mostly just game don't you? and you got an i7 8700K so what gives

True dunno I quess I saw shiny thing and wanted it thanks for putting me in a more reasonable mindset

The i7 8700K will be sufficient for another 2 years at least, you'd be better off saving up to make a killer high end system then... who knows maybe Intel finally releases 10nm or 7nm and it's amazing [:

If you game almost exclusively you will be wildly disappointed by this upgrade. I use my main system for work and refrained from the 12 core 3900x and just got a 3800x even though I work in core heavy workloads. I game exclusively on my i7 8700k system. 

 

What more mileage out of your CPU? Delid and OC the snot out of it.

Maby and isn't the ryzen chips not even fully 7nm they are 10nm with a few 7nm bots right?

You need to get your squirrel under control.

 

Your rig is fine.  Focus on something else you can improve in your life, leave the PC alone

 

Don't delid.  The 8700K is a great chip and performs like a champ.

 

What's the cause of all this upgrade fever for no reason?

It's a bit daunting, if you are not comfortable just OC with a good cooler and that will suffice. I saw decent performance upgrades but it is not for everyone.

 

If you have PC building fever just get a new case and sell your old one. I used to do that all the time. Fun way to re-build an existing system and much cheaper than actually buying expensive new components. Also a good way to try different cases and find what you like.

I'm only 18 and I still live with my parents so I don't have to pay taxes and I  I don't know what to spend my money on other than tech

Save it. Ideally for actual life stuff, but if you're gonna spend it on hardware then still save it, once this rig conks out or something comes along you're super excited about you can yoink that. 

If you OC your 8700K there won't be much difference between that and the Zen 2 chips, in fact in games that don't use more than 6 threads they'd likely be slower, these CPUs once overclocked kick major ass. I had an 8600K for a bit, thing was incredibly powerful for gaming. 

Basically upgrading now wouldn't benefit you much, there's nothing Zen 2 does that your 8700K can't AFAIK. PCIe 4.0 is a thing but SSDs are the only thing to benefit from that, until we get cards faster than the 2080 Ti, PCIe 3.0 x16 isn't a bottleneck.

But you can always...  buy a car, buy clothes, invest, buy sweet pimping headphones, a bike,  tattoos, piercings, etc etc etc.

 

Again,you don't have to spend it.

I think I'm just going to save and if I really want or need something in the future I will have the money thanks for the help
