I’m planning to upgrade from gtx 1060 3gb to rtx 2060 6 gb gpu.

my pc specs are-

ram-2400 DDR4 16gb

cpu-i5 8400

display-1080 60 hz
psu-400 watts

will this be a good upgrade in terms of getting better fps and overall gaming performance.
also will the upgrade cause any sort of bottlenecking ?

You should get the RX 5700 at the same price, it has closer to 2070 performance with a bit of work, just don't overclock it, maybe undervolt it a bit.

Your CPU is fine for like 100hz gaming, Is that a pre-built PC? they usually have pretty low end PSUs.

Also either are overkill for your 1080p 60hz display, should maybe upgrade that first, or just soon after getting a faster GPU

Also the RX 5500/5600 is coming soon ish, and you should be able to get that with a 1080p 144hz display at least. or a used 4k 60hz display

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Just so you know, You also get ray tracing on some games. If you have the budget, i would say to push a little bit more but overall its good for Fps boost etc, what games do you plan on playing?

Ray tracing is still a gimmick, there are very few games that support it and it basically kicks your FPS count to the kerb once you fire up the ray tracing

On a RTX2080, maybe, turning on ray tracing on a 2060? I don't think so.

8400 will be a very small bottleneck on some ubisoft games, otherwise ur ok, i'd look at the 2060 super or if you don't need ray tracing, the 5700 xt red devil.

nevermind that...

I would suggest just waiting to see what the RX 5500/5600 offers soon enough, it would be better to have a 1080p 144hz display with a slight GPU upgrade.

Unless you can upgrade your display soon after buying the RX 5700, which is on sale at times for $289 if you're in the US.

Yep, found that too. To be honest - never heard of such PSU manufacturer (brand) before. The positive - looks like a modern PSU outside. Modular cables and all.

Bad - no thorough reviews.

Just some info in the LTT forums -

Not saying it's definitely bad, just unknown.

I remember when I upgraded from a RX380 to an RX580 on an i7 920 at 3.8 and saw a noticable FPS improvement.

Since then I have been sceptical about bottlenecks regarding relatively recent components.

Sure I had one but I got the FPS bump I needed so what mattered?

clearly you can.

honestly stop lying. any rtx card can do ray tracing. if it doesnt do it on ultra they can do it with some tweaked settings. yeah it would be better on a 2070 super and up. but a 2060 is possible to play it on!

and another one. put overal settings on high and rtx on ultra and voila 60 fps.
granted its a shooter. but is it playable? YES.

i will switch to a 1080i 144 hz later down the line.

you could go with the rtx 2060 super. if you like graphics and dont mind seeing the newest stuff go for it. but do change the psu if you want to indeed go for that one. your current one should do a 2060 and your cpu without an issue. you wont see bottlenecks orso.

if you're just going with that then the RX 5700 is faster at the same price

^^ Yeah. Unless you need the RT features and better NVENC encoder from the 2060, the 5700 is an excellent option.

550W is pretty standard, but you likely don't need that for a 2060. Peak power (highest spike) is only 167W or so: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-ray-tracing-turing,5960-8.html. 8400 pulls a max of about 118W: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-coffee-lake-core-i5-8400-cpu,5281-10.html. On a 550W PSU that'd leave 265W for your drives, mobo, and case fans. Could easily go with a solid 450W if they're cheaper (550s are often the same price or sometimes less). Also the RX 5700 pulls up to around 203W (https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx_5700-rx_5700_xt,6216-4.html), still easily handled by a 550 or even a 450. Also keep in mind these are torture test numbers, in games power consumption is often lower.

Yes it is compatible, no it will not bottleneck your RTX2060. Yes its a good choice. If you're feeling brave, you can also consider 980ti's in SLI from eBay. But I can see why people wouldn't want to do that. It requires quite a bit of knowledge to pull off, but you basically get 2080ti performance for 400$ in most games with a little technical skill. Built not bought as they say.

Also to the poster above that said the 8400 is only good for 100hz gaming. I guess I'm constantly hallucinating when I operate my pc then, because in all of the games I play I average 200+ fps on my 240hz monitor, and I'm currently using an 8400 in my gaming pc. The 8400 / 9400F is the every-mans gaming CPU, don't let these people dissuade you. The 2060 is a good card as well.

I think both cards are good as per the benchmarks in the below link.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060S-Super-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/4049vs4045

will probably buy the one which is cheaper..

What about my motherboard?

will B360 Pro Vdh be still good with the new gpu?
