Buying stuff on ebay

Looking to upgrade to AMD Ryzen because i5 just isn't cutting it anymore what are some key things I should do before buying and after buying (cpu,mb) for the saftey of all my other componets thanks

I think e-bay is a great option, make sure you pay with paypal and such, read descriptions very good. You check feedback of the seller look for negative or netural feedback. If its a personal seller I won't buy if there is any of either. If its a company or business I usually like there rating to be 99% or higher.

 

Back in Feb I was able to snag up a EVGA RTX 2070 XC Gaming with EK waterblock and backplate for $470 which at the time was a steal. Also was able to register with EVGA for the remainder of the warranty.

Consider something more like /r/hardwareswap before considering eBay.

Aside from that, you have some buyer protections in place with eBay should the item be not as-described. Look for listings that describe the item if it's used, how it's been used, ETC.

Seems like a lot of these people who are advertising are NA I am from england, I live in a small town so there isn't any chance I could do in person swap and shipping would be more dangerous than ebay, but thank you for the consideration.

I believe hardwareswap has a filter by country, check the right-hand side, see if you can filter flair/titles by UK listings.

You're also able to post WTB posts, so long as you have a general idea of what you're looking for.

eBay is perfectly fine, as long as you get a good deal. You're protected if anything is damaged or doesn't work, or if they try and scam you.

I personally buy almost exclusively from eBay, and as a result I generally get my stuff for free (buying complete computers for one or two parts, selling the rest).

Check Amazon too. I got one of my keyboards for $49, brand new in the box, and it still sells for well over $100.

 

As @Semper said, Reddit is an excellent choice. You can always ask if they'll ship. I've received items from Europe a few times from the Hardware Swap.

Paypal affords the same protections.

Like say if a motherboard was shorted or something could that then break my gpu or something if I were to plug it in after?

It should be fine. I've never had an issue with something like that happening.
