Crucial SSD Vanishing in MSI GS65 Stealth

Hey guys! About a year ago I purchased an MSI GS65 Stealth laptop, it's awesome, best laptop I've had and I'm very happy with it. The only problem was it had only 240GB of storage. I bought a 1TB M.2 Crucial SSD, cracked the thing open, and installed it. All was good... for a week. Since then, the drive just sometimes... doesn't show up?

 

It's been initialised, set up. I've been using it consistently, speeds are great and all that jazz. It just vanishes on startup sometimes. A restart or two later and it shows up no problem, back to using it, but I have no idea what's going on.

 

When it's gone it doesn't show up in device manager/disk management. This is starting to get concerning as I've gone into my final year of uni and need my storage to be a bit more reliable (I'm backing up/using source control of course. Just worried that I may lose data as I'm working).

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I would clean the contacts on the motherboard and drive. Reseat it and see if it helps?

Gave the contacts a good clean-up and it seems to be working? I won't know for a while as the problem occurs over time.

Yep, definitely still temperamental. I took some photos of the SSD contacts and the bay contacts. I'm very grateful for the help!

It's making full contact when slotted, I don't think it's a contact issue. I may try swapping my C and E drives around to troubleshoot if it's a drive bay problem or a problem with the drive itself.

I edited the earlier reply sorry, I’m gonna try and swap the SSDs around and see if it’s a drive bay issue or a problem with the SSD itself

Attached are photos of the SSD when it's seated. I can't actually remove the primary SSD so no troubleshooting until I get my desktop up and running.

 

Can you see anything that may be the problem?

Nothing looks odd. Check if the fuses are loose. If one is like half broken, it could be the reason of it working on and off.
