Hey guys,

So I have my big rig which has an asus gtx980ti. I was using the system fine and playing some games, stopped for a bit and had some weird issues. All of my chrome tabs errored out saying there wasn't enough memory. I cleared some space on my main hard drive and started up minecraft. I was playing for only a minute or two when my whole system powers down. No errors, no warnings just shuts off

I tried starting it up again but it got to the windows loading screen before freezing and getting covered in white lines

I've tried clean installation of drivers, using older drivers, safe mode and safe mode with networking.

In safe mode I managed to get the driver to install but after restarting the artifacts came back and it froze. Praying this isn't a hardware issue so hoping you guys can help. Attached is a picture of my screen with the artifacts. Weirdly they don't appear if I screenshot

Your memory is probably dead/dying.

You can try to underclock the VRAM and see what happens, or just raise the power target to +50% and throw some more voltage at the RAM with it's stock clocks.

Could also try flashing a fresh bios onto the card.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

This is the gpu memory not the system memory right?

I'm running a start-up repair right now but will try that when I can

Right, underclocking it would fix it if it is the memory.

It may also be the GPU die itself for some reason.

New problem then. While it does appear in the device manager no program can recognise the gpu and while in safe mode, trying to select any resolution higher than 1024x768 causes multi coloured artifacts. I can't underclock it at all

Probably want to try flashing a fresh bios onto if you have a 2nd GPU you can boot with.

Afraid this is the only one I have. Going to try a few things with safe mode and drivers on the off chance that it's the issue but idk. Also going to start looking for new hardware I guess

RX 5700 blower cards are $289 at times, aftermarket ones are $360 if you're looking for something new.

Flashing the bios usually works fine, you'd just want a 2nd card in case something goes wrong.

Well as far as I can tell this is a hardware issue and I'm considering it pretty dead. I was wanting to upgrade anyway just not quite this early. I look into the flashing process though thanks

Welp. Just flashed the latest bios onto the card and still the same problem. Will try one more clean driver install but I think the card is caput

Did you try throwing as much power at it as possible?

Would also be useful if you had a 2nd PC to try it in

There's no way for me to try throwing power at it. The pc only boots into safe mode and even then nothing can be detected

Could try pulling it only and letting it totally discharge before putting it back into a system.
