Two systems (that I know of) currently experiencing a similar group of web browsing errors such as:

  • Videos pausing while continuing to play the audio correctly.
  • Videos playing normally but the audio continuously looping a specific 5-10 second segment indefinitely.
  • Slowed and glitchy video playback with regular audio.
  • Normal video playback with demonic incomprehensible audio.
  • Other various mixes of stated issues along with occasional non-video related issues.

The video attached is one of the most prominent issues appearing on my Acer Chromebook while watching YouTube. The laptop is connected wirelessly, but connection is definitely stable with 100mbps download and 20mbps upload. What I’m more concerned about is my desktop PC having these types of issues as well. The PC has a gtx1060, a recently upgraded ryzen 5 1600X and 16gb ddr4-3200. Using a wired connection, Firefox instead of chrome and much better hardware, the PC is experiencing the same (if not, more) issues that my crappy chromebook.

The only thing I can think of that could possibly be the source of the problem is my home network. We have Xfinity xFi Internet 5 Extreme (brand new Arris group TG3482G voice+data modem) with around 15 connected devices at any given time, though the problem still occurs when only a single device is in use. Did a little digging around and found out I had “Protected Browsing” turned off from the xfinity website, not sure if that’s a red flag or not. Besides that, I keep recommend firewall setting on for my PCs and I do not have any extra antivirus installed, as I am not one to venture into anything remotely sketchy.

Anyways, if anyone has any ideas or information please let me know. I am a complete forum/msg board newbie so if I messed anything up despite me trying my best to read through rules, I sincerely apologize!

Just because you have a high speed, doesn't mean the connection is stable. It sounds like you're getting CRC errors on a few channels in the ISP's cable network. Go into command prompt and type in "ping -t www.google.com" and let it run for a couple of minutes. After that, hit ctrl + c to stop it and report back what it says

Chromebook 374 packets

374 packets transmitted, 374 received, 0% packet loss, time 373514ms

rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 21.562/24.224/123.305/5.498 ms

Yeah, that looks within reason since the chromebook is probably wireless. Try logging into your wifi router and actually force disconnecting everything except for your chromebook and computer and see if that does it. Also sometimes a client list refresh can solve LAN streaming issues.
