U14S and NF-F12

Go to solution Solved by Algebruh,

In the end, I just bought D15s and mounted F12 at the front.

Edit: Noctua support just replied. They state that F12 should be mounted in front of U14S.

Hi,

I am planning to purchase Noctua U14S, and I have a spare NF-F12.

Should I mount F12 in front of the U14S or mount it at the rear of U14S?

Maybe I should just buy U12S?

I heard NF-F12 ?

And what are you cooling with the U14S? The F12s get quite loud if you run them at higher rpms (but good lord do they move air, two on a Gammax 400 kept a hot running i7 950 in check for me), the noise tradeoff may not be worth the slight buff to cooling.

Oh it'll do the R5 1600 in its sleep, I ran one up to 4Ghz (wouldn't do 4.1 at 1.4v so I dropped it back to 4 and dialed back the voltage a bit) on a mere 120mm AIO. The 3700X will get hotter though, should still keep that in check.

You could just try out either configuration to see which is better.

The NH-U14S already performs about as well as the NH-U12S in push / pull.

If you wanted to save some money, you could look for a cheaper but larger heatsink and use the NF-F12 you have on it.

Nice. That makes sense since the NF-F12 is aggressively optimized for push.
