Hi LTT community!

I'm building a PC for Christmas and am a bit stuck on where to start.

This PC will be used for 70% game dev and 30% gaming (Minecraft, some cinematic games at 4K 30fps).

Looks don't matter to me, it will probably be under a desk. I would like good airflow, not it being quiet.

32gb of RAM is needed because I will have YT/Netflix/Spotify and up to 30 tabs in chrome open at once.

No OS/peripherals needed.

Thanks,

Anoraked

Start when you're a few days before purchase, the market changes over time so info now will get outdated even before Black Friday let alone Christmas.

I have to order about 2 months before Christmas as Amazon shipping prices are really high, and it's cheaper to order from a local shop.

Should the stock cooler run well with an overclock?

What happend to $1000 lol

the 660p is the SSD to buy right now, it has a pretty big cache

You don't really need the extra fans

4K is nice, but I'd recommend at least a 32" 4k display IPS preferred natraully, or find a used one for really cheap ~$200

You can get mechanical keyboards at half that price

Mouse is entirely up to you, a 12 button mouse might be useful if you want to set up macros on it, they're like $30-40 at most

May want a bluetooth controller of some kind for any console games. The SF30 pro from 8bitdo is nice, but had an odd form factor

The stock cooler is not going to be able to handle any real OC

buy a Neptwin or Scythe Fuma 2 120mm dual tower cooler at a later date.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

If you try and make a build, it gets about 2 parts that have prices.

That's because the list you looked at were made at a different region. The pricing seems to be horrible in Ireland tho, even compared to the UK. Looks like 3700X + MSI B450 ATX board + 2x16GB DDR4 3000MHz+ + GTX 1660 + 450w PSU (tier B or higher) + 1TB SSD/500GB SSD + 2TB HDD is your best bet.

@streetguru The budget was for the PC only, excluding peripherals. I’ll look into 32” monitors, not much of a tech market where I live so I’ll probably have to buy it new. What does the ‘cache’ mean when talking about SSDs? I’ve heard people say that it is pretty big on the 660p, but have no idea of what they’re talking about. I already have a PS4 PRO so no controller needed for me. I’ll find a better keyboard, I’ll keep the mouse as I have used it and really like it.

It just makes it faster before the SSD reaches full capacity.
