Wifi seems fine but feels jumpy

I recently moved into uni accommodation, and for some strange reason they don't have Ethernet ports in the rooms, so I purchased a wifi card for about £20 and it says the internet is fine but it seems like its stuttering when I am playing games but the ping stays constant like 30-35 ish. Is this down to getting a crap wifi card, if so could anyone recommend anything, if its not due to the wifi card could someone provide a solution if they is one. Thank you

Make sure that the driver is up to date on that thing, past that you can try a different WIFI adapter, but I'm willing to bet they have some QOS setting in the uni router that de-prioritise gaming traffic
