I bought a cheap PC and am looking for a GPU to put in it. I've decided to look for 1050 TI's but I dont know if its a good pair with my I5 3550. Would the GPU be too powerful, not enough, or perfect? I cant use anything more powerful due to my PSU not having external power for a GPU.

Get a RX570 instead, usually cheaper and a way more powerful GPU. That should work well with your i5 3550.

Unless you can get a 1050 ti for like $60 it's not worth it

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Get an RX 570-580 with a 2nd power supply(or replace it), just jump the 24 pin and turn them both on at the same time.

It's a roughly 50% faster GPU, and they're like $100 used.

You can get a dual molex to 6-pin PCIe power adapter for under $10 which should run most lower end cards assuming that your existing PSU is 300W or greater it should be capable of powering most 1060s. You can also get these with SATA power connectors rather than molex but I would not recommend these.

Whether the CPU will bottleneck the GPU will depend on the games you play and the capabilities (resolution & refresh rate) of your monitor.

As others have stated the RX580 is the best bang-for-the-buck for 1080p gaming but they are power-hungry. RX 570s can also be found at good prices used but again are power hungry. Team Green are definitely the more efficient option these days.

an RX 470/570 is going to draw a bit less power so that's probably for the best.

Can also just undervolt it and it won't pass 100W while gaming.

I went through my PC and realized i'm stupid. I have a 6 pin cord but only have a 350W PSU. I did some research and the 570/580 are going to really push my PSU or not work at all. Should i start looking for a 450 or more?

Just don't overclock them

You can also just manually undervolt them, or just drop the power target to 80% or so.

Also wattman has an auto undervolt feature now.

an RX 470 or 570 would be the best thing to go for.

If you can find a GTX 1050 ti for really cheap then go with it. If you are ok with spending a little bit more to get better performance, then you can buy a new good enough 450w-500w PSU for around 40-50 dollars and buy an RX 570.

I agree with this statement.

Honestly, for that CPU, an RX 470/570 is pretty perfect.

I just dropped in a new budget Corsair PSU and an RX 570 into my buddy's old Dell with an i7-3770 in it, and he is stupid happy running all of the games he plays on high/ultra at 75hz.

It really is such a good pairing, and arguably maxes out what that CPU generation can do gaming wise.
