Installing personal router off of my apartment complexes network

Hello I am looking  Into if a personal router being installed in my apartment could fix connection issues with my apartment complexes Wi-Fi and ethernet connection. It seems that even one unconnected be in the Wi-Fi or the Internet I tend to get  Large  Lag spikes and/or an unstable connection. When I connect on my laptop occasionly it long tell me that I have a self assigned ip address the Internet is unavailable you she after waiting 30 minutes to an hour this issue resolves itself.. I'm just looking to see if installing around or could possibly help with this issue or would it make it  Worse?

If you connect a router to this existing infrastructure then all you've done is added a device that will add more latency and complexity to the network. If the buildings network is unstable connecting your own router won't make it better.

If you mean request to have your own ISP connection ran to your room then that would likely help assuming the instability isn't on the ISP's network to begin with (if you got connected to the same terminal as the building's).

I know the pain of lots of devices saturating wifi. If your apartment is not using 5GHz, but you do, then you will get a massive increase in quality. Even using a different channel on the 2.4GHz band should improve quality, but I don't know by how much.

Adding your own personal router to the network will make the latency worse. If possible your best course of action would be to purchase your own connection and not use the complexes included wifi.
