Get RTX2060, or keep GTX1080?

Helo guys.

Curretly, I have MSI GeForce GTX 1080 AERO 8G (blower style cooler) in my build, but I have a chance to get MSI GeForce RTX 2060 VENTUS 6G OC (open 2 fan style cooler) from my work for approx. the same cost I would be able to sell my GTX1080.

I play mainly at 1440p/60Hz monitor and some lighter games at 4K/60Hz TV, so performance shoud be roughly the same.

I am very happy with ma GTX1080 performance,but 2060 will produce less heat (tested) under load.

I will play RDR2, new Star Wars Jedi Fallen order and Cyberpunk 2077 whe they come out.

Both cards match my build, so I don't have to care about looks.

What do you think, is it worth upgrading?

I have looked at benchmarks in games online, performance looks almost the same for my needs. That is why I am asking for opinions.

So why sidegrade?  If they're the same, what is your reasoning?

Heat, mainly. Newer card, also. Aero is very hot event with good airflow. I can get about 15-20 celsius lower.

Sell your 1080 and get a 2070 or 2080. Best of all worlds

If both is used, you have to think about longevity of the card. Do you trust your 1080 more than the overclocked rtx 2060? Personally, if the rtx 2060 is used, I wouldn't do it. 1080 beats it with 8gb of vram, slightly better performance, and you know what you've done with the 1080 card. As with the rtx 2060, you have no idea whats been done to it, and just to swap because it isn't a reference card with newer tech, isn't really worth.

1080 is hotter, almost no OC potential, used for about a year and half.
2060 has rather big OC potential (better cooling), it was unpacked today, will be used for video analytics testing for month or two, than I can buy it.

Its not necessarily that it produces less heat, its that two fans cool it better.

Even if it does, its venting some of that heat into your case now compared to your old card which exhausts entirely out of it. So actually the rest of your system might run hotter.

Venting out exces heat from case is not a problem in my case.

i wouldnt OC it if youre wanting better cooling. and besides, it already comes by default OC. so you'll see better performance on the 2060 than your reference 1080.

 

but the real question is did your company purchase the rtx 2060 used or brand new?
