Planning for a $800 Build

Go to solution Solved by Meganter,

Hello,

It's a bit in the maxed out side but it's good overall.

Closer to your bugdet.

Nvidia GPU will be better for Photoshop. 3600 CPU will be better overall compared to the 9400F, 3200g and 2600.

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some suggestion on the Windows PC build that is hopefully around $800. I have been looking up suggestions build but I am torn between the trades between better GPU vs better CPU. If there is more info I could provide for better decision making, please let me know.

Budget

~USD 800 ( Max out at USD 950)

I am living in Hong Kong, and my budget is around HKD 6000 ( Max out HKD$7000)

The budget is for the performance alone, something I would use until the end of this PC (CPU, GPU, Mothboard, necessary RAM to perform, Reasonable Storage for software and files),

and the absolute limit is I would pay to minimize the changes I'd have to make in the future(16->32GB Ram, Additional/Better cooling fans, Extra Storage, wifi adpator, etc.).

Usage

1) Light gaming( League of legends) while recording/streaming with main platform and their suggested program ( Pxxx.tv & Txxxxx.tv )

2) Photo Editing with Lightroom & Photoshop, more software in the future.

3) Light work with AutoCAD, (only 2D Drawing), and Maybe some BIM drawing in the future.

4) Maybe dipping into video editing.

Case

The simpler the better, Don't require RGB, see through panel is not needed. If it can achieve a better air flow, it can be a plain black metal box as far as I concern.

Prefer ATX mid tower or smaller, dont want anything bigger.

Front IO ports is needed though. Usually I have two USB ports used and switch between multiple USB devices while working.

Future Upgrade?

The last PC had not changed for 8 years, so I'd say I don't plan to upgrade this build from times to times.

The upgrade I might make is the current monitor, from my basic 16:9 60Hz to a ultra-wide monitor or duo monitors in a couple months.

Any suggestion for great editing monitor is welcome. Separate budget from this.

__Edit:__

Current parts in mind.

Some sort of B450M Board

intel i5-9400F / AMD Ryzeb 2600/ 3200G/ 3600

GTX 1660, GTX 1660 Ti, no idea of Radeon cards

2*4 GB Ram / 2*8 GB Ram

500W-550W PSU

240GB SSD + 2TB HDD

These suggestions looks pretty nice, I am happy with the storage I got. And 3600 + 1660Ti seems pretty legit.

Seems like the Ryzen 3600 is going to stay for builds around his price.

Yup at the moment it's the best CPU for its performance and price.

Also PCP says that the B450 would need a bios upgrade but it's a MAX version which should come with the bios Zen2 ready out of the box.

Adobe still heavily favors single core speed. It's one of the few areas that Intel is still handily beating AMD's numbers.

AutoCAD has favored Intel in the past as well, though I haven't seen any data on Zen 2's performance in the suite.

  • Very fast single core performance for best performance in your particular uses, paying less attention to the GPU because LoL requires almost nothing (my RX 580 pulls 200+ FPS at 1080p LoL at maxed settings.) You could consider a step up to the GTX 1660 or RX 590 for a pretty marginal cost increase as well.
  • Obviously this doesn't reflect what Hong Kong prices will look like, but from what I've seen, I'm pretty certain you could find some great deals on parts out there.

I love to see this intel option. Haven't heard of core speed, maybe because I've search the wrong keywords. But budget PC only gives me gaming PC builds. Haha.

I've look up some bench mark with this new found Core speed idea, and I've found the following link which looks pretty well planned and tested.

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Photoshop-CC-2019-CPU-Roundup-Intel-vs-AMD-vs-Mac-1295/

I am very grateful for your suggestion. I am sure if I would go for the intel route if my budget is almost triple the one I have. But by the small margin of 9700K over the 3600, with my limited budget, I might still go with the AMD.

Thank you!
