Dual monitors with dual RTX 2080ti FE

I’m having some questions about my upcoming build

I’m currently building a new pc and planning 2 options

First is 2 monitors with one 4k and one 240hz

Second option is just one 4K 144hz monitor

Which option would be better for dual 2080 ti

also I have never set up dual monitors before. How should I plug the DP from GPUs to monitors? do I use one DP for each gpu or two DP from one gpu

My specs are

9900k

Aorus z390 extreme

Corsair Vengeance 4x8 3000mhz

EVGA T2 1600

dual 2080 ti FE

samsung m.2 2 TB

SLI is dead and pointless.. and a waste of $1200. Thats my advice from all this.. Dont go Dual 2080ti's.

I'd have to agree there. maybe on a retro rig just for pure fun it would be neat to have a multi gpu setup for nostalgia purposes but I'd save your money for something that will actually be useful on a modern machine

If he’s got a second 2080ti and is buying a 144hz 4k monitor then what the hell would you even save money for at that point?

Yall need to learn to pick up context, OP didn’t ask if SLI was worth it, they asked how to do it.

Why does anyone buy an ATX board if they’re only doing single gpu?

I would suggest one larger display over multiple. You just use one DisplayPort from one card (though 144hz 4k I think might require 2 from the same card?). The nvlink bridge handles the connection between two gpus, so the frame section rendered by the second card goes through the bridge and is combined on the first gpu and then pushed through the output.

Note that SLI is really only useful in a few games and performance benefits may be small.
I don’t think desktop acceleration with SLI has been a thing in a long time but if you spend more time in other applications or with regular desktop use rather than games, multi monitor may be a better option, in which case you power each monitor off of each card, or both off of one, doesn’t matter since SLI wouldn’t be used for that stuff.

For gaming on multi monitor setups you want to use one card per monitor ideally.

Don’t mix and match refresh rates, gpus don’t handle that well. Even for just regular desktop use you might find both running at the same speed, and it won’t be the higher speed of the two. It might work ok with each monitor on a different gpu but if they’re running in SLI at any point they will default to the lowest of the two refresh rates.

Thanks for the advices on monitors and other things. I would def stick with 144hz 4k now.

Do you recommend any specific DP brand or I can just pick up any DP on Amazon
