Mixing Ram of different capacity possible?

I have a Intel i5 7400T with gigabyte b250 d2h mobo paired with a 8 gb 2400MTs CL15 Hyperx DDR4 memory can i pair it with 16 gb 2400MTs CL15 Hyperx ram? Is it possible.

yes, though you probably won't get the best performance

 

why not just use the 16GB itself?

If you put them for Dual Channel, you will get into "Flex Mode", where half memory will work in Dual Channel, while the other half in Single Channel.

With two memory slots, sell your 8GB stick and buy 2x 16GB if you REALLY need that much memory. Otherwise, go for second single 8GB stick.

It's better to combine two pairs of each capacity (example 2x 4GB + 2x 8GB), since it's optimal for Dual Channel under non-equal capacity on all DIMMs (each channel has 12GB and it can work in Dual Channel if same capacity DIMMs are paired to each other).

If incase I pair it way I mentioned will cause any harm to my motherboard cause I have a 8Gb as well as the 16 Gb RAM with me.putting them together is dual channel will it cause any trouble to the hardware or should I upgrade my 8GB RAM also to 16GB

I have 24g of ram . 2666 4g*2 and 8g*2 ,what you have to do is put the slow ram on main slots and the others on the oher slots. this way they will run on the speed of the slow ram and you wont have issues. then try to oc the rams.

You can't damage your MB by running memory that's made to be used on it (DDR4 memory on DDR4 board).
Unless you fail at mounting it (in that case however, You damaged MB - NOT memory).
