I was trying to find the video Linus alluded to as well, I don't even see it on Floatplane

Interesting, can't find it either anymore but I definitely watched it a few days ago. Guess they pulled it to change something.

I find myself wondering if a dc to dc psu might not make more sense then flex atx for this case. Picobox sells a 490 watt unit that is just a bare pcb with that you could make the case even smaller or support 2.5 inch drives and ditch the 40mm fan.

That's personal preference but to me external power bricks are stupid, pointless to make a slightly smaller PC if you've got to carry a power brick that's usually bigger/heavier than a built-in equivalent along... Would rather the PC be a tad bigger and be independent.

That's a little monster of a PC, but if it comes to carrying it around you forget that you also need to drag a monitor and keyboard/mouse with it. It's diminutive size/weight becomes less of a feature.

Well even if you do it's still nice to reduce the total size/weight of what you have to carry.

Personally I use my SFF build when I travel for work and I already have a monitor/keyboard available in each of the places.

Or when I go to game at friends' they always have a spare monitor/kb for me to use.

@jakkuh_t

Since you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, I know LTT doesnt really do this, but whats the chance I can legitimately buy this build from you guys. Mainly because some of the parts are out of stock here in America, and Velkase cases are on backorder.

I'd cover the cost of all the parts, shipping and whatever labor you guys have done on it. This also means paying for changing a part that you guys might have as a reference part or demo/testing or review part to consumer grade parts (like the GPU).

I know you guys have only ever done something similar on LTX I believe where you put some stuff on sale. Im not fully expecting a "yes" but is there anyone I can contact at LTT Media group to seriously inquire about purchasing this build?

Thanks

these kind of size usually builds up dust pretty fast, how to deal with or how terrible will the dust affect perform and and noise over time?

I bet no one wishes to rebuild this ultra mini itx build for 2nd time lol

With all the holes you can just throw a bit of compressed air at it and it's clean again...

I really want to build this now, the most expensive part is the CPU followed by the Mobo.

I wonder if that tiny PSU could run a GTX 1080 mini

I think if I were to do this I'd be a bit more conservative and use a 3rd gen 4 core Ryzen with the Vega 11 APU to make a little e-sports/legacy gaming machine out of it or even the Athlon 200 or 220 if I really wanted to go minimalist and just wanted a well ventilated Netflix machine that could play Rocket League.

I might buy one of these cases to use for my next Linux hooked up to a NAS build since I'm a sucker for Mini ITX builds.

For anyone that want this case like I do- One tip to making builds like this is to cut the sleeving off of the PSU cables, makes them more agreeable and separable to go around things.

If you want to really go for it, you can actually just shorten the cables. It's quite easy if you take your time and dont be stupid. I've done this because traditionally, I've used 1u server power supplies that I'd already have to open to place a quieter fan inside, and those come with longer cables. The quieter fans are jank, once I worked with a 750w? unit that really needed airflow because I was using a lot of its total load, and I basically cut holes in the side and crammed multiple slim and quiet 40mm fans instead of one loud one (in push not pull. Super sketch). Those 40mm fans just have a tone to them that makes even quiet ones are quite noticeable. My switch got a 5v 40mm noctua fan that I really had to power down quite a bit, and it's still the loudest thing in the room, though a much more acceptable low drone.
To be honest, consider a build with external power. Bricks only go to the 300w range(and you'll need a dc-dc converter) and some of the enthusiast dual gpu laptop crowd used to link 2 together to get enough power for overclocking, so there's parts for that out there. One thing I helped someone come up with on a forum long ago was a high powered 1u unit- just used that as a brick. Took the essential power (from rails) over a few cables they soldered to it, in a thick rubber sleeve and connected it to the case with some connector they bought from digi key (I was only responsible for suggesting the idea and helping find a good connector, they did rest). Those loud 40mm fans are way better shoved behind a desk or something, and it's still portable- you can cram that in a backpack easy. It's not really much bigger than a fatt laptop brick.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Took me a while to figure out what you were talking about, but you're probably thinking to the 100Wh limit for battery capacity.

There is no battery in there.

So a Flex ATX PSU is meant for small builds, right? Why are there no modular ones then? At least i found none, and i assume that LTT didn´t go with the one used for the lulz.

"Geeek" sells custom flex atx psu with modular cables and even offers custom fit cables for their cases.

I think fps offers some extra short and modular flex psu too.
