MICROfiber cloth just smudges glasses, or don’t remove smudges???? It’s brand new wot?

Yeah I got glasses yesterday and it comes with a micro cloth but when using it today to remove a smudge or fingerprints on glasses what does it do? Nothing... or just smudges it with more fingerprints ?

i fold it in half too so how are my fingerprints going through the cloth

You need to get some cleaner like this. The microfiber cloth is just so you don't scratch the glasses when wiping off the cleaning agent. On its own it won't clean the glasses.

I've worn glasses for almost my entire life and if someone told me that a microfiber cloth was the same as a glasses/lens cleaning cloth I would slap them and say to go buy some microfiber cleaning cloths on Amazon and come back to me when they've touched both.

Yes, *technically* they're both microfiber, but a minivan and a supercar are both *technically* cars, yet you can't substite one for the other.

I didn't say they were all of equal quality, but both are absolutely microfiber cloths.

Since we're on a tech forum, I'll use an appropriate analogy. You might as well say i3-8100 isn't a CPU because it isn't as good as an i9-9900k. It's just silly.

How to tell difference between micro and glasses cleaning then???

So im guessing the one glasses came with are glasses cleaning not microfiber then

Quality aside, it's just different composition to fit different purposes.

Just like when you buy a jumper - you can buy a heavy knitted one with very visible ribbing that's kind of loose or you can buy a close to the body extrafine one. Both are still jumpers, even though they look different to the naked eye.

The ones that come with glasses are just super low quality microfiber cloths. They're cheap to make, but still better than traditional fabric, which will eventually give your glasses a foggy look from cleaning. Using something like a shirt will make lots of tiny scratches.

Am I the only one here, who has the same pair of glasses, uses whatever I can find (T-shirt, paper towel, microfiber or whatever are you all arguing about) and just use my own breath to introduce some fresh moisture to the glasses, then wipe them thoroughly?

As I said, I have the same pair of glasses (because my vision did not really move either way) for about 8 years now and if I disregard any scratches from them actually falling down, they are perfectly fine and I could not be arsed to use something special to clean them daily. I may have used some solutions specifically made for glasses few times during those long 8 or so years, but it has been by far a minority.

The old "breath and wipe" has been working for me since the first day I ever wore glasses.

I don't use anything. I've gotten tired of cleaning my glasses, so they usually accrue a bit of dust and dirt before I clean them. as to smudges, just stop touching them. When I do clean them I just rinse them off in a sink, use some regular dish soap, and get the faucet to a laminar flow and that'll get the water off. Works flawlessly every time.

Isn't that just stripping away any sort of coating(oleophobic, hydrophobic, anti-reflect, etc...) that could be on your glasses though?

Either use proper glasses cleaning fluid or just pass them under water to clear away the smudges before wiping.

nope, I have been using those on my glasses for over 10 years so far none of my glasses had their UV filter or other surface filter messed up.

I occasionally use wipes to clean my glasses, but maybe once a month I'll use warm water & dish soap to *really* clean them, often after using wipes there will be a line of crud around the edges that won't budge without it.
